If this is in the wrong place please move!
I somehow have my debit card details stored on my 10 year old Ds's Ipod touch, I know I probably done this while registering but cant remember it!!
He came to me earlier saying he had managed to get loads of free stuff, like Michael Jacksons latest video and music, games etc....
I just said Oh thats good and left it at that. I have just logged onto my emails and seen 3 reciepts for things bought from Itunes store, looking at them I nearly choked, a total of £70 worth of stuff has been bought and billed to my card
I have had a look through the Ipod and got into the account and my card details are there but Im gobsmacked that there was no need for the security Id to be entered. Does this mean if we had lost the Ipod that anyone could downlaod and it be billed to my card. Surely he should of had to give personal info for any transactions, like any store purchase!?
It stores my details but has stars in the place of my debit numbers except the last four and the security id is left blank.
I have tried taking the details off and it wont let me. Does anyone know how I do this?
Do I have any grounds for moaning at Apple about this or do I put this down to my stupidity
I really cant afford to have this taken from me, money is tight as it is and xmas approaching.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
TIA

Check the itunes software that's on the PC, you'll want to disable what I think is called one click purchase.
Most of what happens on an iPod is controlled via iTunes on the computer itself, so there'll be a setting somewhere in iTUnes that also has your card details .As he'll have had to be online at the iTunes store to get all the apps etc for his iPod.
You'll want to find this and cancel it, then sync the iPod to the comp.
I doubt you'll get anywhere with Apple, so will just have to chalk this one up to life.
I'd also tell your son, not to visit the iTunes store unless he asks your permission to do so.0 -
In iTunes on your PC, select menu [Store] then [View My Account]
Then on the Apple Account Information select [Edit Payment Information] then change payment method to [None], select [Done]
Click on [Reset Warnings] button
In [Edit Account Info] change your password0 -
Thanks both of you..............I have managed to take my card off the account!
My next problem............There are 21 things waiting for download and one of them has just cost me £59.99 plus a few £ things. Im gutted. I have stopped all the downloads, didnt realise when I clicked buttin it would automatically download, was hoping for a list to check first!
I will contact Apple in the morning to see if I can cancel all the downloads that have been stopped....... I cant belive this, what a rotton xmas for my kids and next few weeks shopping money GONE!! £170 so far and more to come if they dont cancel the downloads!
I feel so depressed but will see what Apple say tomorrow!
Any more help on what I could say to Apple to maybe get a refund of somewhat would be appreciated! TIA0 -
If it doesnt take payment till you download cancel your card. That wills top anymore but where you stand legally I don't know. The ones you've already download I'am afraid according to their terms and conditions you won't get a refund. I dont think there are any cusmer laws regarding Services rather than goods, maby try and get have a word with Citizens advice, contact the papers watch dog just make a huge fuss about it not the most civilised way of getting what you wnat but may work.0

....then sync the iPod to the comp.....
Be very careful before taking this advice.
You have a library on your PC and on your ipod. When you sync, and your ipod is connected, itunes compares the two libraries; if there is something in the PC library that is not on the ipod it will automatically be copied to the ipod. Good huh?
Unfortunately, if you have something in the ipod library that is not in the PC library, itunes will delete it from the ipod. This accidentally happened to me and I immediately lost 20gb of music!
Personally, I never use sync as my ipod has a 60gb HDD and my home PC has only 80gb so I do not have the spare space available to store all my ipod music on it.Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!

There are parental controls on ipods/iphones so you can turn off the app store and the music store. You need to do this too IMO, and then there are no future problems.
Also, you could have just "logged out" of the itunes store on the ipod touch, and then it would have prompted for a password. Leaving the account logged in all the time, is what has happened and your son, inquisitive as most, hasn't read the pricetag on anything, just clicked away, and it appears, so to him it seems free!
I feel sorry for you, I honestly don't think you can get a refund for anything, as it has been purchased. Your card details were not in the ipod touch, but stored in your itunes account, and then the ipod got these, when activated, and you left it logged in, ready to purchase.

Thnaks everyone for your help.....
I have spoken to Apple this morning who were very sympathetic and offered to email Itunes (apparently they dont have a tel number!?) on my behalf and explain the situation. Itunes have emailed me this afternoon asking me to either cancel the card, cancel my account () or ask for the payments to them to be cancelled, I chose this option. My bank,Abbey, were very helpful but said as the purchases had been made it was now too late to cancel them so I will have to wait til monday when the payments clear from my account then call them back so they can pass it onto the Visa Dispute department. Who will in turn, contact Itunes fraud department to discuss the situation which will hopefully go in my favour for a refund. The Itunes Lady who emailed me seemed hopeful for a refund as she said it was apparent that the cost was extreme within a few hours after assesing the previous downloads from an Itunes store card. So im really hoping for a good outcome. Can only put my faith in Itunes and visa now!
Oh and to add, the account has now been stopped until the matter is sorted and once its back on I will go into parental controls and sort it all out, I have changed the password also so he can no longer use it without my knowledge.
Once again, thanks for all the help.

glad it's looking ok for you... one more thing from me though...
anyone above the age of 13 can have an itunes account, so theoretically your son can't have one, but what you could do is have your own account, without a card linked to it, (once set up), and then you can purchase itunes gift cards, and just load them on, and hopefully start teaching your son the value of money and all that stuff... woohoo.... (i have no kids, i'm not judging, but it's a good way and he'll probably love it, being able to occasionally get things, but understand that it costs!) Just an idea, and in this modern world, it might be a good way...
