Yeah I agree, the only ready chopped veg I have used is the carrot and turnip (only because it takes forever to peel and chop a turnip!) but no longer buy it as it smells rotten when it is cooking - I couldn't bring myself to eat it!0 -
Just a bit of a rant really!
Does anyone else find that they get a lot of stick or jibes from people about their OS ways, particularly food?
I always bring a packed lunch to work, always have. Sometimes a sandwich, but usually leftovers from night before. I also always have a HM cake or biscuit for 'elevenses' just to tide me over until lunchtime
Today it was twinks hobnob and leftover thai curry and brown rice
I dunno if it's cos I'm veggie as well which makes what I eat even 'weirder' but people are always commenting on the food I have, sometimes in a complimentary way, but more often than not it feels like they're not being very complementary and think it's weird
It's a bit of a sad state of affairs when eating healthily and having homemade food is such a rarety that people feel the need to poke fun
I wouldn't poke fun at their limp Mr T sandwich, or overpriced MacDs, but nearly every time I open my food in work someone makes a comment
Just feeling a bit sad really0 -
How stupid people can be. You can sit there mentally adding up what their hideously expensive MrT sarnies cost them over the year (let alone not quite knowing what they've got in them) and feel very smug....good for you, I say !:beer:0

I have a work colleague who complains about the smell when I take tuna sarnies to work, so I now take in the smelliest food in that I can think of

I think there is an element of envy personally.
Most people have 'ping' meals because they can't cook or are to lazy and therefore they are unable to have left overs.
In my opinion Jibes are always made when someone is feeling inferior!!Goal - We want to be mortgages free :j

Sorry about that. Maybe they are envious that you have the skills to make your own food and they don't?
I would respond by saying something like
"yes, i get to eat interesting, tasty, nutritious, additive-free food every day of the week...how lucky am I?"

lol!!!!! :d0 -
i think we live in a sick society that promotes buying sandwiches and lattes from delis as lifestyle choices over healthy eating and homemade foods are pushed aside for commercial ready mades. i get laughed at for my frugal ways sometimes but i know i am eating well and can save money to pay the debts i accrued through buying into the idea that we can live in a throwaway society and have it all. some members of OHs family are convinced we must be wealthy because i spend so little compared to them especially on food. if only lol.Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

Thanks everyone :kisses3:
I know deep down that it's not weird to make your own food and eat a good diet, but it's hard to enjoy lunch when I feel self conscious about it because of people's comments!
Maybe they are jealous, but I think they genuinely think what I eat is weird, one of the comments was 'it looks like you're eating a garden'
!!!???
I had some leftover refried beans, stir fried veg and some salad
I think they think I'm mad for spending time making homemade cakes and the like, they just seem confused by it all.0 -
I wouldn't let it get to you. I love left overs and even put them in my kids lunch boxes for school. They always taste better the next day anyway!0
