  • Somebody mentioned that we can only live frugally because other people don't. Whilst this is true to an extent, it's worth pointing out that the frugal lifestyle doesn't mean having the same old tat as everybody else but just doing it more cheaply - it's about adjusting your values to less materialism. By that I mean realising that it's more important to give time and attention to children than expensive gifts, etc etc.

My daughter asked me if there was going to be anything in her christmas stocking that wasn't a freebie, I did feel a bit embarassed for about a minute, however she was quite happy to accept all my freebies and bargains to use for her own christmas presents though saving her money to buy clothes and make up.
  • never embarrassed just come back from our holiday where i used the plasters in 2 of the band aid kits and rather than chuck the cotton wool we brought it home, along with bath salts and the little sewing kit.

was rather cross with ourselves as we were offered wine (free) with our flight meals on way out which we had but on way back we both said no thanks then realised the next day (too late) we should have said yes as its sealed mini bottles and would have been handy for xmas hampers (oh well its what tiredness does to you).

I bought a whole salmon in Te*co today. I asked for all the bits - head, tail, etc, for stock. The customer before me bought two salmon and didn't want her bits so I asked for them as they were all on the side together. (we both arrived back to collect them together after ordering them) I was told I couldn't have her bits as it was 'against health and safety'. I mean, all the bits were on the table together! He carefully picked one head, one tail, one backbone from the heap and gave me that. The rest was going in the bin but the other lady must have overheard because I was just at the bread counter and she came up and put the bag full of her bits in my trolley. Nice lady!

Ive had lots of positve comments for stuff Im wearing and looks of surprise when I say it came from a charity shop. My biggest bargain a m&s per una cardi :j:D:j ok cost me £6 odd but I would not have been able to afford the £40 price tag, had i bought it new.
My sister is so jealous that I have loads of new clothes, but they're all from charity shops and occasional Primark!

I bought a lovely mini dress that even my Daddy likes for £3.

I was in a cafe earlier today (not very MS, I know, but we were cold and tired and hours from home).

Having paid for our drinks, I discovered that the cafe's copy of the Telegraph still contained the voucher for the free Waitrose chocolates.

Yes, I do feel slightly embarrassed.

i usually nab the ones from the library ;)

Ah thats nice of her, there are some good people here still then!

I used to feel embarrassed going in charity shops but not anymore, the only thing I get annoyed about is if I have actually paid full price for something and people think I have got it for peanuts. I have to stop myself saying how much I really paid for it. It doesnt happen very often as mostly I have got it on a deal of some sort lol.
Work used to laugh at me when I used to use mocs for my shopping but I was the one paying pennies and they were paying hundreds. I didnt mind them laughing but my boss used to call me stig of the dump!!!

i love being thrifty and get exasperated with other peoples extravagances, however, i did get embarrassed for about 20seconds at the weekend. my friend was emptying her fridge of "out of date" food (some of which was only hours out of date!!) when she said i could have it. obviously i said thank you and restocked my own fridge. no different to buying the reduced stock in the supermarkets.

lol! I usually pop round to a friend's house on a Friday and pick up what she's cleared from her fridge! She buys the same stuff week in, week out, and what wasn't eaten the previous week she used to bin - until the day I saw and almost had heart failure! She thinks I'm nuts, I think she is! ;)

We are almost finish our Christmas present shop (via internet) we wanted some more board games for little one (3&5). Me and oh were reminiscing about childhood games and we both were on about how much we liked frustration and I was saying I loved buckaroo. So we checked ebay and I remember Asda having games for 2 for 8 quid and that was cheaper than buying them off ebay with P&P, so I was going to go later in the week with oh mam. As it's the time of year for every one to off load stuff to the charity shops, I went in to check the games and low and behold they had frustration and buckaroo looking brand new and they were a quid each, no I'm not embarrassed - for me it's about playing the games as a family and enjoying them.

I love charity shops always have done, I once got my dd a party dress that was from Monsoon with a 28 quid price tag attached for 1.50. I won't go in monsoon as the prices are rediculas and we wouldn't have rainy day savings if I did.

I love a bargain and refuse to pay full price for items in shops that I know will be reduced, in fact most of the clothes are from charity/ car boot, I sell myself at car booties quite regularly to help savings and quite happliy buy the whoopsie items in the supermarkets- at the end of the day it pays for us to go to Florida every year so in my books it worth it - infact we've just got back and I love the fact that if you don't finish your meals over there they offer you a box to take the rest home with you!!
