after reading this i told a friend who asked in costco if its the same coffee as starbucks, apparently its not its just ground by the same people, its kirkland or something??
Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card
Rehome an unwanted prize or gift with a seriously ill child through Postpals.co.uk
  • Going on off topic a bit here, but does anyone else find that the quality of Starbucks' drinks have slipped recently?

The last few times I've been in the drinks have been ill-prepared, e.g., there has been too little cream or an oil-slick floating across the top of my drink.
  • Quality can be a bit hit and miss. I only go there now if I have vouchers; it's a bit of a rip off really.

Kirkland is a Costco own label, lol!

Entirely possible that it's down to the change from semi autos to bean to cup machines. Starbucks spent a day retraining their baristas a few months ago. Doesn't seem to have helped.

    That definitely wont be true.

It certainly isn't true. *$ pay less than 20p for a drink all in - cup, coffee (if you can call it that), milk and lid. If memory serves me correct me it's about 16p for a Tall.

Even less if it's a filter...

As an former Starbucks employee, let me drop two more secrets.

If you want the best black coffee, ask for a Drip. The Americano is a one or two shots of Expresso with hot water added, and expresso by its very nature is lower quality coffee. Which bring me onto my second point.

If you want the best tasting milky coffee (and you don't mind not having froth on the top), ask for Misto. Its also half the calories for those who are conscious of their weight , as its only HALF milk, not nearly 90% milk as are all the other coffees which are expresso based. (i'm not, I have trouble keeping it on).

Both these coffees and are cheaper and much better quality.

For those of you who interested, heres the difference between expresso and normal filter coffee and a few other bits:

Expresso is where the water is forced through a mass of coffee grounds at high pressure, to produce the coffee quicker, originally invented by an italian got fed of waiting for his employees to brew coffee in their break. Thiss you takes away all the body of the coffee, plus on the whole, this produces a small amount of coffee which they put in the bottom of your cup, and fill the rest of it with milk, which is actually more expensive I might add.

Filter coffee (also called the Drip and the Misto) is slowly brewed giving a full bodied cup of coffee which I personally regard as a better coffee.

Another thing, when ordering coffee at Starbucks always check whats in the drip machine, there will usually be Cafe Estima and another coffee. Cafe Estima is one of the most acidic coffees Starbucks do and I for one hate it. Expresso ain't much better on that stakes, but this doesn't make a difference when 90% of your cup is milk, trust me.

The least acidic coffees are Sumatra, and Gold Coast Blend. Also if you ever see Arabian Mocha Java in the Drip, you must try this, the only serve at certain of year but really is a must try coffeee, preferrably black. You may not like it when you first try it, in fact I hated when I first tried it, but try it twice, this coffee is really unique and can really grow on you.

Oh, and just to make certain people really jealous, and I am not conscious of my weight. Though those who are, semi skimmed despite having more fat can actually be better for you weight, as the calcium in it prevents your body absorbing fat. A little secret I once saw on a TV program.
Just thought I mention a few thing ;)

I'd love to only drink the filter coffee but I have an Americano because I can have decaff - I drink decaff at all other times as I sleep much better with no caffeine in my system. I wish they'd have a drip decaff on the go.
