US Starbucks is a million times better than UK from what I've heard now...

They get cheap refills and free WiFi!!! I'd love to be able to use my PSP in a starbucks but because you have to pay it forces you to a website which the PSP can't do. So it just doesn't work - even if it did we get charged about £5/hour!!!

you do get refills and other courtesies like a free drink if you have to wait longer than a couple of minutes, free drink if they get your order wrong, free drink if you ask for a drip coffee and they have to make it etc but no free wifi

Wish I'd known that - had to wait 15 mins and remind them twice for a Frappucino last weekend. 10 mins of that it was just sat in the blender waiting to be poured in to a cup!

Sorry been busy last couple of days. Most of the questions you asked me have been answered... but.. no you don't get refills (shame). I was told that starbucks in US do give refills of the 'coffee of the day' but we don't. Also just to mention a tall is £1.89 (latte, capp etc..) and a extra shot is £15p but if you ask for double tall its £1.99 not £2.04. The till has a button for double tall which I always forgot. But this does not apply to grande or venti. So make sure you get it cheaper. Also, you can ask for your drink to be wet or dry. Wet means no foam so more more for your money! Dry means extra foam so less calories. Whatever you choose!! Also, always make sure you get EXCELLENT customer service from starbucks because we were taught to make sure the customer is always happy and if a drink is cold or doesn't taste like it should take it back (lots do) and the staff must make you another, and/or give you a voucher for a free drink.

    Enjoy your starbucks.

ps, REALLY missing my discount and free drinks... cost me £8 today...

    Thanks :)

Yeah, a good couple of years of homework, including quitting my job and working in Starbucks for a year to learn the ropes.

Glad their marriage survived in that cautionary tale. The best bit for me is that it's someone else's money (thank God!) and they're employing me to set it up and run it - and they have the same vision for what sort of place it should be.

Anyone near Watford, give us a month or so then pop along - it's gonna be great, better than the chains, with lots of sofas, nice staff and everything!!

downside is that it's hard to switch off at night!

Where in Watford is it going to be

    I'm a local!!! - It sounds good - beer:}
    I want to...........?

Why do Starbuck UK not provide free internet(wireless) connection? April this year I went to Malaysia and Starbuck Malaysia provided free wireless internet connection as long as drinks were bought.
  • Erm... dur... yes thats the whole point. If you like it strong, just get a straight shot. If you like it weak you pay for extra milk. Isnt that blindingly obvious.

There is no need to be rude to fellow moneysavers , especially over coffee;)

Actually, I don't think it is the whole point, if I pay for a larger coffee, I expect a proportionate amount of coffee, not just more milk. I've always thought this bad form of them, if you pay for a pint of coffee, surely they should put 2 shots in it? Although I know they don't, and have the cheek to ask you to pay even more. I shall order a short next time, for a nice strong coffee hopefully.

My partner and I have to use motorway services a lot. I've found an even cheaper way round these ridiculously priced "buckets" of coffee. I love weak milky coffee and my partner likes his fairly strong so we always buy a "bucket" for him with two shots, and a "bucket" (well, they can't be described as cups of coffee can they?) of hot milk for me, which is usually around 99 pence. Then I pour some of his coffee into mine resulting in the perfect cup of coffee for me. I also ask for less froth within my milk. It's insulting enough to be given such a huge mug without filling half of it with froth (which fills me up with wind in any case) and daylight robbery the prices they charge. I get the distinct impression when I ask for hot milk that they've never heard of hot milk before, let alone be asked for it, and I have come to the conclusion that the majority of the nation must have an aversion to hot milk, which is fine by me, because this works in my favour!
