Hi,
If you mean the Sainsbury's magazine coupons, at Tesco you can use several at once if you can find a cashier who will take them. Some cashiers say no (because Tesco can't reclaim the money on them). I wouldn't personally try handing these over on their own to a cashier, I would ask if they can 'scan any of these coupons please?' and offer a handful of mixed Manufacturers/newpaper-cut coupons/Sainsbury's coupons.
You can usually tell if your chosen (young male!) cashier is going to scan them all, once they are 'on a roll' scanning and you are chatting to them, they will often scan until the till beeps that a coupon cannot be accepted. This would be, for instance, where it's a Tesco logo coupon (has to be used against the product) but scanning is NOT a problem with competitors' logo coupons.
I don't use self-scan, I prefer the onus to be on the cashier to accept the coupons you are offering.
Incidentally, if you have more than one lot of Sainsbury's £x off £xx spend coupons - e.g. in the name of more than 1 family member or if you've bought some on ebay - more than one will scan at Tesco on one shop. No-one notices the different surnames on these but I only offer in-date ones (e.g. for the right week you are meant to use them at Sainsburys).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

My local Tesco in Grimsby have categorically stated that will not take manufacturers coupons unless the item is purchased. Until about 4 weeks ago there was no problem and I would slip 2 or 3 coupons into each shopping trip (Maximum of about £1 off a £40 shop) without any problems at all.
Then 4 weeks ago the till operator scanned through my first coupon and then asked if I had purchased the item to which I said no. I then had to wait 5 minutes for a "supervisor" to arrive and void out the 10p coupon. I asked why I couldn't use it and she said the manager had stopped all coupons no matter how small as they were getting too many. She said to go to the Cleethorpes store if I wanted to use my coupons as they don't mind them there! I went to customer services to be told exactly the same story.
I have since made a point of going to CS every time I visit before shopping to enquire what the store policy is to be told the same thing. Hopefully one day they will get fed up of me asking and allow coupons again.
The annoying thing is I never abused it and would only have 2 or 3 coupons to a maximum value of £2 on any one shopping trip. It isn't as though Tesco don't get the money back and a handling allowance from the manufactures either.

Has anyone else had problems with newspaper coupons recently (ones for newspapers, not out of newspapers, that is)?
I've been told twice now that they won't take my Telegraph vouchers, even by my most favourite cashiers who usually accept everything (within reason!).
They've both said that Tesco are tightening up on the newspaper vouchers in particular. Strange...0 -
ours wont take the love it coupons that are printed in the sun every week0

Hello - Dormouse I generally use a sun newspaper voucher, the telegraph voucher, the observer vouchers every time I go shopping, then if they expire I send them off to the Sun on a voucher exchange. I have had no problems using them each time at Tescos. (Although the quick read vouchers have been banned and staff threatened with the sack if they accept them !)
The love it coupons, I tried to use in Asda yesterday but the cashier did not want to accept them, but my Tesco did.
I do have a serious shortage of vouchers at the moment will have to email a few companies.

I've got a serious shortage too. This prompted me to try a staffed till today rather than self service as I only had a 40p coupon off a £50 shop (ouch). However I did have a couple of points token to hand in too - worth 400 points.
Interesting thing happened though - I got a 100 clubcard point token which I don't normally get from self service. So not all bad. But desperate for coupons!!!

Oh well, I guess it's just the usual pot luck theory then :rotfl:0 -
Dormouse, do you ususally use the self scan machines, or go to a cashier? And do the self scan machines know if you put the coupons in the little slot, or can you forget to put it in and maybe use it again? Or is this bordering on a bit immoral/illegal etc?!0
