Have Tesco stopped accepting manufacturers coupons?

Was in my local Tesco (Leicester - Hamilton) today and they only accepted 1 manafucturer coupon - said this is what they were told. Even ended up seeing the store manager who said she had called their Customer Services before coming down to see me and this was the policy. I don't believe it will have to try again next time!0

Just read the post. Do they accept other shops coupons. I bought sainsburys magazine the other day will tesco accept them?0
-
i just wish that all tesco branches would work to the same policy.
mine won't accept any coupons through the self service tills, but will accept them on the normal tills.
but they'll only accept branded coupons. if you give them a tesco coupon you have to buy the product otherwise the scanner beeps and the cashier gives me back the coupon.
so they're more than happy to rob the manufacturers, but not let 20p of their own branded stuff go through0 -

The answer is that they WILL scan through the tills but the cashiers are mainly told only to accept the Sainsburys 'spend & save' money off coupons (e.g. '£x off £xx shop').
My advice is to carry the magazine coupons with you to Tesco, choose a young lad on the till (never a female) and try them in a small handful of other coupons. Some lads will scan all you give them without a second look. But if they are handed back to you just say 'oh, sorry, I thought you accepted these but never mind' (don't argue).
Then try them again next time!!:DPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

 I agree it would be so much easier if we knew where we stood with coupons, it's not just different branches with different policies, it's different cashiers in the same store accepting different amounts!
Thought I had sussed the lads who would scan anything with a barcode but last week I was told 'only 6 coupons' by a lad who used to take them all. I just said OK (never argue, coupon use is a bonus not a right) but I will be looking for another (male) cashier next time!!
However, the coupons that 'beep' at the till and say you have to buy the product are not just Tesco 'own brand' stuff. It's any coupon that has a Tesco logo on it (e.g. those from the free magazine) which are often manufacturer's branded products. I believe Tesco says it has an agreement with these manufacturers that when they produce free coupons in the Tesco magazine they do have to be used against the product.PRIVATE 'PCN'? I've never thought about using coupons like this before. I shop in Tesco every week and only ever use the till spits if I get them. Does it mean that if I get some coupons from Somerfields magazine that Tesco will accept them?
I'm a bit confused about which coupons you mean - sorry0 -
Hi, yes, Somerfield coupons will also scan at Tesco but same applies as in my answer about the Sainsburys mag coupons. The tills accept them but the cashier may not (understandable really as Tesco cannot claim the money back!).
The best coupons are money-off vouchers that you may get on the back of a carton or product, and in Tesco's own store mag there is a 40p one at the end that scans without buying the item (if your store has any of the mags left!!).
Another great source of money-off coupons is Weekly magazines and daily newspapers - check out the daily 'newspaper summary' thread here every day. The Mail is usually good for money off coupons for Cosmopolitan/Esquire or other magazines (last Sunday the coupons were worth around £6 or more!). And no, you don't have to buy Cosmopolitan etc.
This week I bought Tesco garden chairs using a Sainsbury's £10 off £50 spend voucher and several 20p off butter/bread coupons to get the total down nicely. Don't be embarrassed, just collect money-off vouchers where ever you see them (or buy them in bulk on eBay once you're confident as to what will scan) and then hand them over to a young lad on the till when he tells you the total. He will usually scan some or all quite happily.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

thanks Coupon-mad for all the info. I threw away the £4 off £40 spend ones that Sainsburys sent me a couple of weeks ago. I'm well peeved now
I need to cut my shopping bill down even more and this looks like a good way to do it. This is going to be my next major money-saving project. Big thanks0 -
Will they take the ones that are in the back of the Asda Magazine at Tesco - my local is the Coventry Extra next to Ricoh Arena (Biggest in Europe allegedly)0
-
yes the ones in the asda magazine scan at the self service tills so should be ok at manned tills if the operator will accept them0
