  • Wine: Trezanti Salento
    Year: 2006
Price: £4.18 (When on offer, which is now and again but also currently).
    Where: Morrisons

Liked this so much went out and cleared the shelves of 20 bottles - tastes very much like Salice Salentino ( same negroamero grape), which normally sells for about £9 a bottle.

Thoroughly recommended - make sure you serve at room temperature & leave to breathe for at least an hour, if it's a little bit chilled you loose the real smooth taste.
  • MMM wine! Shouldn't be thinking about that at 2pm on a Wednesday! Its got to be Rose at the moment a good offer in Morrisons:

Wine: Echo Falls White Grenache Rose
Year: who cares it tastes good!
    Price: £3.99
    Where: Morrisons

I think there is a 3 bottle limit but take your OH with you and get him to buy some too to stock up for Xmas!
  • I recently bought 3 bottles of 'Vinyard X' a Spanish Garnacha, from Threshers. They were 3 bottles for £8. A very quaffable red wine!!

Well, kind of a wine but great for Christmas (5.5% proof)

Name of the wine: Sparkling Perry
    Year: ?
    Price: £1.10
    Where to buy: Asda
Why you like it: Palatable White fizz, sweet but not too sweet. Great for a family Christmas Dinner as most people can drink it (even Granny) & not too high on the alcohol percentage! Champers style pop off cork (very fierce ceiling hitter!)Not one for any wine connoisseurs obviously but a cheap fizz for the table. Asda also stock a 'Pink Fizz' Perry at about £2.20 which is OK for similar occasions too.

One exception is Torres Vina Sol. While normal retail price is around the £6 mark, it can be had for £4.50 or so. Vina Sol is so much better than virtually any other white wine in it's price range, that it's embarrassing.QUOTE]

Just have to say I completely agree with kingbing on this - my entire family love Vina Sol and if one of us sees it on offer we'll phone round to make sure we can all stock up:beer:
  • My favourite cheap red is called cuvee chasseur and you can buy it from Waitrose (and ocado) for £3.69 I think, great for drinking or cooking!

Sorry I don't know more info...

We tend to like a good sauvignon blanc and the best one we currently find is:

    wine: Nederberg Reserve Sauv. blanc
    Year: 2008
    Price: £4.00
    Where: Asda

this wine is currently down from 6.79 to 4.00. it recently won a silver medal in the wine challenge for 2009 and is a great, fruity, light white, not too gooseberry or grassy.

    Hey There!
Sainsbury's have a lovely Sav Blanc, Chilean, 13% and it's only £3.22 an absolute bargain and such smooth tasting.....look out for their 25% off case of 6, cos I've just got a case yesterday and it was only £14.49....WOW!!!!

We live out "in sticks" so shop in bulk anywhere we're passing. Just three weeks ago we bought at Aldi, Preston three double bottle size i.e 1.5 litres of Merlot for £3.99 each. It was fab. :j
Now wish we'd bought more as none left today.
Will try Aldi, Catterick at the weekend and let you know!. think their other good wine is a £3.29 Collezione Italiana Montepulciano D'Abruzzo a lovely Italian red.
  • Shh.. don't tell too many people but the Pinnotage in Lidl at around £3.50 a bottle is yummy!!

Name of the wine South African Pinnotage
    Year
    Price - around £3.50
    Where to buy - Lidl
Why you like it - A specialist SA grape variety producing a very tasty 14% ABV full bodied red wine. There is also a red Cabernet Sauvignon from SA which is equally delicious at around the same price
