I'm pretty sure you should be leaving them out for them to collect, otherwise they've had to pay for the bag that you're not using!

its up to them though, we either recycle the bags, use the bags for storing the plastic for tesco recycling machines, use the bags to put stuff in for a charity shop or i just leave them outside

I had a bag flyer through my door yesterday from SOS Clothing, looked them up on the net and saw several scam warnings and Police warning. Tried to take it up with Trading Standards on the useless Consumer Direct East Midlands helpline and, after several minutes of detail taking, was told there was nothing they could do!
Fortunately i have a fantastic local police team and they will be on the lookout for them on Monday.

Do you live in Newark? Because I had the same one yesterday. I rang Trading Standards and they said that because they are collecting for a registered charity they can't do anything about them. Please see my previous post above (#22) about this charity and it's annual income of less than a thousand pounds.

And even if the bags are from a well known and 'proper' charity, apparently on the collection days you'll get people driving round in white vans at about 5 in the morning nicking all the bags  It's so much better to just fill up bin bags and take them to the charity shop yourself, then at least you know for definate that the charity is reputable, and they're definately getting your stuff!
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

  • Or even have a look at my post here about what I'm going to do about one recent "charity" collection leaflet dropper.

And, yes, it is legal for those of you who know me well...
