Cheap Bacon!?

i have bought some frozen from Farm Foords, think it was 2.50 for a 16 slice pacl Its nice and thick.
I only buy mine from Farmfoods these days, as it tastes gorgeous and the slices are nice and thick. It comes in 3 different size3d packs (frozen). I always get the largest as it's the best value - and me and OH can easily demolish a whole packet!
Have tried Iceland and used to get Asda too but neither were as good, as I was buying the value stuff the slices were often really uneven etc and not as consistently tasty.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Wow Farmfoods sounds good! Is it easy to defrost Bacon, as I usually cook bacon in the microwave anyway... so I guess you just put it on for a bit longer!
Thank you for all of the brilliant suggestions! There's always time for a beer with mates :beer:0 -
Costco or failing that then Iceland0

Another vote for Farmfoods here. 16 slices £2.50, and it's lovely and good quality.
I find bacon so expensive in the supermarkets, it's about £2 for 6 slices or something stupid, even on BOGOF it's rubbish compared to Farmfoods.
It comes frozen so i usually just defrost the whole pack at once otherwise i find chiselling it apart a bit of a misson, but i think they do smaller packs f you wouldn't use it all in time.0 -

I'm sure, that if the bacon is raw when you buy it, you can thaw it all then cook it and refreeze it in individual portions.
Just make sure you take the basic precautions, cook it as soon as possible after thawing, or cook it from frozen. When you thaw the cooked bacon either eat it cold or reheat to the correct temperature. I think the legally accepted phrase is "make sure it is piping hot".0 -

Does anyone know the cheapest bacon (or preferably bacon substitute) in or near Amersham? I don't want to waste money on petrol but am prepared to walk within a radius of ten miles.0

Hi Newbie - when you say '10 miles' is that in total? or would you walk 10 miles there and 10 miles back?
The latter would really open up some fantastic savings.0 -
Ten miles would be acceptable in both directions, although thinking about it, if the bacon is frozen would I be able to get it back home in time before it thaws out? Are there any physicists on these boards that could answer that? Perhaps if I only bought it in winter it would give me greater traveling time pre-thaw.0

How fast do you walk would be my first question?
The offers I hope to suggest render the term "bacon" redundant anyway - it is more "baconique". As such, it is hardier than bacon and can withstand longer periods out of the fridge - in fact, you could probably keep it on a normal cupboard shelf for upto 6 months.0
