Cheap and decent food doesnt exist , it is cheap for a reason . Pigs can be as intensively farmed as chickens are , you really need to source your pork products if you want want decent tasting meat ( even if animal welfare is not high on your list )........To the poster who said Danish , ......the Danes raise their pigs intensively

I like tesco own brand streaky, smoked or unsmoked. Good flavour and less watery than some, but then I like it on the crispy side. 1.67ish for 12 streaky rashers.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We have started having streaky as well, it crisps up much better for sanies and you can get much better quality streaky at a cheaper price. M&S is our favourite, a twin pack of around 20 slices a pack is £4, does not shrink too much, or Waitrose own is good too.
  • The Sainsbury's Basics cooking bacon is insanely cheap, at £1.52 for 670g. Care should be taken though, for two reasons:
    1) What Sainsbury's actually packs into the packs will vary. They may either pack rashers or hunks of bacon.
    2) as it's vacuum packed, you would have to be cautious when separating the rashers.

More information can be found at my blog at:

Note that I mistakenly say that they only come in hunks. This is not entirely correct, my comment above supersedes what I have written earlier.

tesco have 3 big paks 4 a tenna atm xx
    SIMPLES!
  • The best quality cheapest bacon I found is Iceland Drycure British bacon 200g for just £1!!!

Does not appear to be in every Iceland so I generally stock up when i see it- but is fab quality, thick slices, much better than the economy one.

Also more importantly for me is that I will only buy british bacon because of the better pig welfare but I cannot normally afford it. I have found it to be no different to the Tesco British finest 200g which is around £2.70!!! Just shows what a premium you pay to have British pig in some supermarkets! :-(

    Hurrah! :T

I refuse to buy any bacon that is not marked with the tractor, union flag or from a local source. If I can't get British bacon cheap enough my husband and sons go without.

There have been some good offers on Sainsbury quality British bacon recently but now those are over they'll have to switch to sausages (British pork, naturally) for a while.
  • Costco bacon is excellent nice and thick, we divide it up
and freeze its good value :)
