The going on holiday bit does not rally bother me.
It is the week off work with the family I enjoy.

I have holidayed in the UK for the last 6-7 years, I have only been abroad 4 times in my life, all has an adult.

I can see the experience side of things (I enjoy ancient architecture, large amount of irony in that statement), but I do see holidays in the purest sense and that is a break from work.

You can, but don't forget that for most people it's an extra 200 miles each way and many hours and much £££ to get to the point of departure.

It all adds up - and there's the potential for delay with all that kerfuffle.

Is ''extra'' trvaelling for us too....at both ends.

I usually go to Italy, now, without animals, but if I wanted to take them again I would.

re delays, can only say, when we've done it we always get there early....thats my fault, and have travelled early. Probably different at peak hliday time though.

Well despite what I said above next year we are going to give Spain a chance, we are trying it out because we are hoping to eventually spend our winters there. We plan to get the ferry to Santander (from Portsmouth) and drive down to Southern Spain from late October until mid November.

We are getting our dog's pet passport sorted out early next year.

Besides other stuff already said I think you re only llowed down twice to check on dog...or has that changed? I rememeber we ddn't do it for that reason, we just drive through France. Too long a crossing for toilet cfort for dog and too short to spend with them if only allowed one/tw trips down to the car and they aren't allowedup for us.

I think the Santander trip is different (it's the only one that I looked into) you have to get a kennel as the crossing is 20/22 hours (it's about £30 each way I forgot as it isn't that much). The kennel area has unlimited access and a fenced in walking area on the adjacent deck.

What's the point of holls - jumping in the pool fully clothed at 10pm with my children after a meal out or having cooked on the outside BBQ together

Brilliant! Now i think about it wen I looked at Santander we were only looking with cats, a diferent scenario: because even if cats given a kennel wouldn't do that to them, where as my dog would think it was a hoot. Thats actually really good info, thank you!. The Rates family might well go to spain next year!
  • Nice.

Tempted to go right now. Not sure where it is and I have no passport, but it's nice :)

And it's in foreign money, but I can translate that ... and they have some from £37/night when I just picked a random date on the cheapest one. It'd be cheap for others because that's a room rate, up to 3 people.

I wouldn't wish to breach referral rules but I can send eligible couples there for £50 for a week.

I spend at least 4 weeks there per year and it costs me a lot more than £50 per week.

    GG

I can't remember, I just looked and can't find what I meant. I'm sure I remember some thread where you had 2-3 of the guys panting after you, some talk of some lane somewhere that you were familiar with and where one of them probably lived.

Umm I am not surprised you cant find it.

I think you have gotten me mixed up with someone else.

A few weeks more and the adverts will start coming thick and fast for 2010 holidays.

How important is it to have a holiday (one at least a year)? With the economy in tatters are people going to be changing their habits, either through choice or force of finances?

Or do most of us consider an annual holiday an 'essential' to be funded either at the time or on credit?

Speaking personally, we usually have a summer holiday and have often decided where it's going to be by this point in the year before. Not sure about next year, though - I'm waiting to see how finances pan out before making a decision.

I've never been abroad. Rarely had holidays as a teenager (more when I was younger but there was a major change in circumstances). Recently I have started travelling more as my friends have spread out but wouldn't consider it an essential.
I love travelling though. When (and if lol!) I have some money in the bank I will take some time out to do it :)
