A holiday isn't essential any more than a glass of wine is with dinner. It's very nice to have though.

    Nice.

My last holiday I stayed here:

Unfortunately there isn't a hotel so you have to stay in a tent. It's one of the best beaches in the world so probably worth it and I hate camping.

Nice, water looks a bit chilly though:D
This water was so warm it would have been nice had it been a bit cooler to be refreshing:D

I think the Santander ferry goes from Plymouth.

The Portsmouth one goes to Bilbao.

Both are good and you get to see loads of dolphins and whales.

We tried getting the ferry to Spain a couple of years back - Bilbao was lovely, much better than expected, and I really recommend it.

    But fly.

The ferry was horrid. Maybe I've been spoiled by growing up going on lots of cruises (those were the days when you could go third class and squeeze six into a cabin, and do it v cheaply - loved it.)

But anything that involves crossing the Bay of Biscay in a not absolutely massive boat is not a good thing. I remember the water in the (v high-sided) swimming pool sloshing up and down quite terrifyingly. Lots of feeling sick. Very boring. Generally scummy.

No i don't think holidays are essential until this last year i have been on 9 holidays in 26 years the longest was 4 days.
i am perfectly happy just going for weekends getting £15 night travel lodge and day tripping round from there.
Although this last year we went a bit mental and went to nz for 2 weeks.

The UK is a bit of a drab and grey place, so it's nice to get away to somewhere a bit brighter.

I would have to disagree on that score, we have never had a main holiday abroad, we spent 20 years going to Dorset where the countryside is amazing and not at all drab.

Have spent since 2002 going to near Great Yarmouth, ok not as pretty but we still get to go away....although it's not culteral as we spend the time on the beach or by the pool.

I have been away on weekend visits to Europe for speedway, Denmark, Prague and Italy..but that was just me and eldest and was in my former life as someone who could afford it! We have also as a family, been to Disneyland Paris three times but they were only 3 or 4 day things (again in my former life of when we could afford it).

Our holidays were never done on credit, if we couldn't afford it out of our normal money, then we didn't do it.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

TBH the water was a bit nippy because it was Easter. The cooler water brings in the whales though so there are advantages and it was still very pleasant to swim in.

This is the spot for the next holiday

I'm hoping to do some mountain biking round there,

It was me that brought the ferry to Spain up, the whole point is that we are eventually going for about 4-5 months with our dog and car (and a load of stuff in the car that would be far too much to take on a plane). Our dog is the most important thing and there is NO WAY that I would get him transported in a the cargo hold.

However bad the ferry is I still think it will be better than the very long drive to Southern Spain, I would rather put up with an awfull ferry trip but with a much shorter drive of about 650 miles afterwards to Southern Spain.

Oh, I'd happily do the drive! Not as far but I drove to Milan with the critters. Hotels are easier, and you can stop of nd do stuff....make the drive part of the holiday...

I'm with you on cargo holds. We've done it but would avoid at all costs.

Yes I have heard of dogs dying and even getting lost! (someone at the airport would have to die if that happened).

Just yesterday we again looked at the possibility of driving, what I do like about it is long it would take.

ps sorry to correct you on the RICS on the other thread
