How essential are holidays?

If i go away on holiday all the time i'm there i'm thinking , 'i should be at home, this needs doing that needs doing.
You have about 500,000 waking hours on Earth, minus say 25000 when to young or old to know.
Will you be happy in say the 470,000th hour that you attended to those vital jobs on a home you temporarily had custody over?0

I think if you go not expecting it to be nice, just a way to get from a to b (and take some travel sickness pills), you'll be fine.
We made the mistake of thinking it would be part of our holiday, and an experience in itself, so were a bit underwhelmed.
A cut-price cruise it is not.
That's all I am expecting of it Carol, just a way of avoiding a long drive. Although you have alerted me to the possibility it might make my dog sick (don't really care about myself, I'll get over it) I will ask the vet nearer the time if it's wise/possible to get dog travel sickness pills or something.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0

To drive for 17 hours would take 2-3 days too. I'd have to kill some people I think.
LOL, it took, under one day...it took seventeen hours! including stopping in Bourge on bresse for some some chicken, in champagne for...guess? and Reins rose biscuits, and ,Dijon...I think on that trip and to check oil etc, and petrol/comfort/fresh air and sanity stops/to stretch legs.0

I suspect the dog will get over it, too.0

Recors time, including UK, and I'm in SW, was 17 hours, because I don't speed and we don't rush. But did that in one.
Italian side after Mont Blanc tunnel the motorway is horrid, full of pot holes, terrible signage (remarkble the only place in Italy where was under signed not over signed!).
The roads frequented by both Swiss and Italian drivers are ....disturbing, even the good ones, simply becuse they don't care f they hit stuff it seems.
I've driven as far south as around Bologna and Florence, its all ok: not as bad as I was expecting. British plates help I think, people steer clear. I noticed in an Italian car I was less avoided. I noticed in an Italian car I was less avoided.
The longest drive I've done was an overnighter. Sydney to the Gold Coast. We left about 7pm after xmas, drove until about 3am, pulled over had a few hours sleep in the car, then off again. Arrived at around 10:30 I think. The return trip was a lot quicker (only about 10 hours) as we didn't stop as much. Good memories, but I don't think I'll rush to do it again.PasturesNew wrote: »I go stir crazy after 1.5 hours. Do you do this at the movies too? 0 0

I'd say they are fairly essential. If you work in a high pressure job and do not take a decent holiday you don't properly get the chance to wind down and I'd suggest this has an effect on your long-term health prospects. On the other hand if you are a non-working doley you don't need a holiday.0

 - alone, in a small and uncomfortable car
 - nobody to talk to, can't look out of the windows as I'd be driving
 - I wouldn't be stopping for lunch, certainly wouldn't be lunching with anybody if I did
 - I've never had a posh meal like that, any lunch I had would be a cheese sandwich from a petrol station
I bet not many people would drive, alone, for 17 hours, without screaming with boredom.
It's boring. Driving is boring. You sit there, looking ahead, watching the traffic .... and that's it. That is all you can do... look ahead and watch the traffic, keep an eye on the road, make sure you're not missing your turn off. Boring. 1.5 hours max and I'm bored of sitting there, staring straight ahead.
I can sit on my own sofa for days/weeks/months not being bored because I have the PC, the telly, I can make a coffee or something to eat. I never get bored just being alone... but sitting behind a wheel with only the destination to focus on, in my own time ..... is boring. Watching that mileometer creak round... counting off the dull, monotonous miles....0

I have never pulled a man in my puff.
And if I had the slightest inclination it wouldn't be anywhere near my daughter.
Full on? What does that mean?
We went to New York, got to the hotel. The brat had booked a room overlooking Central Park. Inevitably we didn't get one.
!!!!!! did it matter? We live in the country, it as not as though we long for greenery.
She poked and she prodded and I wouldn't do anything and she was disgusted with me.
She ended up literally dragging me down to the desk and forcing me to demand a better room.
The receptionist seemed to feel for me.
 Honestly, define full on.
I love Pn she always says what everyone else thinks.0
