I think everyone benefits from a break from routine. But it doesn't have to be a holiday - it can be a week spent doing all the things locally there usually isn't time for.

Sorry Errata, have to strongly disagree. :D A week doing as you suggested would only increase my workload and stress levels ten fold. I would still be responsible for the travelling to and from whatever place we were visiting every day, I'd still be responsible for finding places to eat or supplying packed lunches, I'd still be responsible for all the housework that would still need doing when we came home at night.

At least on holiday you can book into a cheap hotel where there is no housework, no breakfast to make and no beds to wash. :D

A holiday for me can be just a day off work, slobbing at home.

    Time off is just nice.

A holiday isn't essential any more than a glass of wine is with dinner. It's very nice to have though.

    Nice.

My last holiday I stayed here:

Unfortunately there isn't a hotel so you have to stay in a tent. It's one of the best beaches in the world so probably worth it and I hate camping.

Point taken, I should have written 'we' instead of 'I'. The main point though is that a break is not a break if all you are doing is different stuff on top of the normal stuff, iyswim? Especially if your family is difficult, shall we say.

    Nice spot eh?

It's called Jervis Bay and is actually part of the ACT. When they decided to have Canberra as the capital, they decided that a capital city needs to have a port so set aside Jervis Bay to make one. They then decided that it was a complete waste of time and money to build a new port just a few hours from Sydney so gave up on the idea. As a result there is this piece of unspoilt beauty about 4-5 hours drive from Sydney.

I do not think holidays overseas are essential. Most people managed for a very long time without them. I certainly don't think anual holidays are essential. I think travel is a highly desirable extra.

I think holidaying within UK is rather expensive though.

Totally agree, I much prefer holidays in the UK, well worth the extra money IMO. No flights with all the delays, waiting for transfers etc you can just drive right there at a time and speed to suit yourself, you can take most things with you that you want including the most precious thing, the dog.

    Nice.

Tempted to go right now. Not sure where it is and I have no passport, but it's nice :)

And it's in foreign money, but I can translate that ... and they have some from £37/night when I just picked a random date on the cheapest one. It'd be cheap for others because that's a room rate, up to 3 people.
