Keep going--its easy to get fed up and think that it will never end. Just keep going until you start to enjoy it!! and it becomes just away of life.
I am now amazed that friends will buy stuff I know they can't really afford but think they can.
    LBM-2003ish
    Owed £61k and £60ish mortgage
    2010 owe £00.00 and £20K mortgage:D
    2011 £9000 mortgage
  • Another vote for small frequent payments. The other thing that has saved me a lot is putting off going shopping for as long as possible. Rather than shopping once a week, every week - we can often go 10 or 11 days by having meals using leftovers or frozen extra portions.
    20K by Xmas 2010 (10 in 10 challenge - debt):
    Debt: £799.21/£10500
    Savings: £0 / £9500

    - Taking lunches and bottle of water to work (£4 to £5 a day)
    - Walk to town instead of taking the car (£2 to £4 for car park alone, and since I got walk back, I buy less because I need to carry it back :) )

The fact that multi packs are often a scam, we always check the unit price now. (started about dec/jan)

Sainsburys a couple of weeks back had a special on dishwasher tablets with large shiny adds and wrapped up multipacks. Great until you checked the unit price and found the smallest pack they had was 7% cheaper than the special deal :D

Mind you they did have a deal on one of the main brand washing liquid sachets that worked out at 30% off so we bought 10 boxes

    great thread,
i agree with the saving up of £2 coins, its amazing how quick you reach £50. when the jar is full, i put it straight in to my childrens bank accounts :)

what a lovely thing to do :A

I save mine and then i try and do something we wouldnt be normally able, like last year we I took the 4 of us plus my mum and dad to a pantomime at the birmingham hippodrome and had a meal at a lovely restaurant before as well.

the last lot I saved I gave to DH so he could build some decking in the garden which we have used loads this year

I now have £108 saved but dont know what to do with it , but its lovely thinking about where to spend it :D

If you can afford to pay off your credit card in full every month, put it onto direct debt. That way you will never run up heavy penalty charges, nor will you be at the mercy of the Royal Mail whose strikes could cause your cheque payments to arrive late.
