Err..yes and no [in that order].

No they don't.
I also have the same problem in my road and sometimes put my wheelie bin & recycling boxes in the way if I want my space back after a short trip out. I have also been known to have a bit of a rant at non-residents who pick my (large and easy to drive into) space instead of choosing other tree-lined spaces nearer to their work.
But apart from that there's nowt that can be done apart from pay for a dropped kerb & white line (which will only be enforced if you live in a Special Enforcement Area - and only then if the householder makes a complaint and a CEO gets there quick enough...).
Personally I don't like the idea of inviting such a despicable pariah as a CEO near my property so I prefer to rant at the odd hapless parker. That and the obstacle course of wheelie bins seems to work!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Solution is simple. Not everyone would listen and see reason.
It is unfair for shoppers to cause you inconvenience though they are not breaking the law.
Start by putting a polite letter on their windscreen. Express the inconvenience they are causing and End by saying you are being civil and that others may consider letting air out of their tyres but you are not that kind.
This would give them a subtle hint and they could appreciate your gentle approach and respond.
Good luck0 -

Probable response would be that somebody might take a baseball bat to anybody (or their property) seen messing with the vehicles.
One thinly disguised threat would only result in retaliation or another threat couched as advice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
People that pay their road tax are all equally entitled to use the road, whether they live nearby or shop nearby.
If you want a private space then buy a property with a priavte driveway or private parking space.
I do sympathise but it's a public resource not a private one.0 -

I had an argument once with an old man who started shouting at me as I was parking my car. I was visiting a friend and was about to park on her road, just a little further up from her house as that was the closest space. This old man came out of his house shouting at me and waving a walking stick. I asked him what was wrong and did he need any help and he started shouting again telling me to move my ******* car because his daughter was coming to visit him and that was "her" space. I couldn't believe the cheek.0 -
Friend of mine is a driving instructor, and he has been told off for parking outside someone's house whilst getting the learner to do a hill start. So they weren't even staying.
What about unadopted roads, where the residents are responsible for the road. Can you then dictate who parks there?0 -
Hello
I know what it's like as for over 25 years I have lived near my football ground and every matchday the road is solidly blocked by cars.
I just accept the fact and get on with it.
When your mum/dad take their car out where do they park ?
Surely not outside someone elses house ?
Lets be realistic. If everyone owns the parking rights for the space outside their house, then the only place anyone can park is in a carpark, shop parking space or outside their own house.
This will be a bit inconvenient won't it.0 -
A relative of mine parks outside her house and leaves her driveway free for visitors.
She does this because she doesn't like the neighbours visitors parking outside her house.0 -

I work near an area like this , and residents put their recycling bins on the road . This tbh is an inconvieniance and I have to get out my car to move them . mant of them seem to have " aquired"traffic cones , which I also move. I park when they are not in and am gone by the time they return. At the end of the day they are causing an obstruction on a public highway.. I appriciate they live near a football ground. But they choose to live there.. I have a simular oproblem as I live in a culdesac, have a toddler , but their is an agreement on our road that you park one car in front of your house and another at the top of the road were there are no houses. We have one car so suits us fine..ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0
