At the weekend made a lovely stew from defrosted chicken thighs, onion some mangy carrots sweet potatoe and stew mix (various pulses and barley etc)and rice. Did a couple of meals and froze some. Also had spag bol found lurking in the freezer. Haven't bought much except cat food! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

Tonights tea is a storecupboard/freezer meal. I bought some tinned salmon when it was on offer so i'm putting that with broccoli (in the freezer - you know all those bags with odds and ends of veg left lol) and pasta (always have some kind of pasta in the cupboard). Mix together with cheese sauce, topped with breadcrumbs and grated cheese and baked until golden.
I made chickpea curry in the past when needing to use up things in the cupboard/freezer but never thought of adding chorizo to it, will have to try that next time.

This is not strictly storecupboard but I have left over chicken drumsticks plus a sausage (cooked to much on the BBQ) that I would like to turn into something for lunch/tea. The only problem is that OH is very fussy, will not entertain pasta and not too keen on rice either. I'm open to any suggestions:j0

Oops meant to say thank you in advance:j0

Are the drumsticks already cooked?0

Can I join in? I'm new to all of this, but it seems to fit in with my aim to spend 300 quid in June on groceries/household etc. I'll do my inventory tomorrow morning - am just a bit worried about what I'll find - last time I had a rifle through I found some tins from 4 years back

Brassic and AnnieC, good to see you here, too! I'm not stalking you, honest!
Cleared pantry at the weekend (coolest place, so nice job to do). Found that though I have a lot of stuff, most of it is bulk buys, and jars of homemade stuff - not many bits and bobs, that I have no idea with. Hear that DH........
However, have several jars of sun dried tomatoes. Any suggestions? We eat meat, but are trying to have more meals without it, so veggie suggestions would be good.
Also have gooseberry pie filling, lemon grass and thai green curry paste in jars, and several jars of plum jam. I made this when we had glut of plums, but it's fairly bland, and we all prefer strawberry, blackcurrant, raspberry and damson. Any ideas what I can do with that, or tried and tested recipes for plum jam for this season - loads of plums on the trees.
Thanks, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I found a lovely recipe on the back of the Campbells tomatoe and sweet pepper soup. PAsta, the soup brought to the boil with 700ml of milk, onion, fankfurters chopped up, mixed together, put into over proof dish, top woth some cheese. Mmmmmmm so nice the kids oved it, and everything i already had in.0

Just back from hols and remembered that I am doing this challenge this month as well! Need to be as well as have spent a fair bit on a birthday spread for a friend of mine. Anyway found a lone sausage in the fridge so will cook it and slice it, pop it into a small ovenproof dish with some gravy, then top with mash made from sprouting spuds that need using up, might add some grated cheese to the mash. Have found some of last years runner beans in the freezer.
Need to go and do an inventory as well and plan rest of the months meals.
