Banks are phasing out the Cheque guarantee Card, you either get a full auth card or a standard Visa Debit.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

    Hi,
I have a NatWest Currentplus account which I have had for 5 and a bit months so I wrote to my branch last week to ask if they could upgrade me to a servicecard if I was eligible. I already have a Natwest blue Debit card but I find that I cannot use it everywhere.

So today I thought I would cheat a bit and phone up telephone banking to see if they had ordered me a card. The Guy I spoke to first told me that I already had a Servicecard and I told him that I did not I had the Blue Visa Debit card, he then told me that they no longer issue Servicecards as they were Maestro and they now only issue Visa Debit cards !.

So he checks and I was ordered a card on the 4th November which was posted 2nd class on the 5th November but it is the SAME card as I already have (A Visa Debit) !. So why on earth would the branch order me the same card as I already have !, so he then seems to get more confused and tells me it might just be better to wait and see what comes in the post !, but tells me this new card that has been ordered is NOT a cheque card.

So I am confused as to why they would order me the same card as I already have when I asked to be Upgraded to a Servicecard, or have they actually ordered me a servicecard as he seemed to think I already had one as servicecards no longer existed !.

Seems to me that they don't know what they have done !

Can you give us some examples? at the moment some retailers wont expect the blue or the purple card due to the facts have failed to update there BIN database. So it wont matter what card you have it still wont work

The only place mine didn't work was on Barclaycard site, and it works now they seem to have fixed it.

Guy on telephone banking did say they were having some problems early on and also you would be charged £1.25 if you use it on Ebay/Paypal.

Natwests view on the 1.25 charge is that paypals transactions are processed in another country hence the 1.25 charge. However it is still being looked into that may not be the definatvie answer guess we`ll have to watch this space. We`ll why dont you walk to the pay desk? What would you have done if they still issued solo cards?

Used my credit card as I do now, its just its nice to have the facility, but it still does not explain why the branch had ordered the same card again ?, surely someone would have checked ?, or can telephone banking not tell the difference as they are both called 'Visa Debit' now rather than Maestro and Solo ?.

    Thanks.

If I remember correctly from my days of working in telephone banking its been a good few years. (so it could be different now)

Cards was just ordered by sending a gateway (a message) to the CSC via earlycloud.

We used to write something to the effect of.

Please order a new card for account number XXXXXXX sort XXXXX

Then make a note to if the customer wanted to keep the same pin or not and just send it. We didn't put please order a solo card or maestro card the CSC obviously knew what card to send.

I don't think telephone banking can defrenchiate now between the 2 cards types as they all start 4751 where as before it was 6767 and 6759.

Thanks for that, is there no way to 'Force' the issue of a Servicecard if the customer has a Visa Debit as that was what I asked for (If I was eligible), would they not have checked if I was eligible (Someone Mentioned pre-approved), or is it a matter of order it and see what the computer says ?.

Would the card order not have been rejected as the card ordered was going to be the same as I had and It was not a replacement for a lost or damaged card, or does it not work that way ?, I guess what I am trying to say (Badly I admit) is that should the person either at the branch or the CSC have thought why are we ordering the same card as he already has and rejected it.

If you are pre-approved or made an application for a servicecard then that's what they should send you unless you made an application.

If a card was ordered for what ever reason they will just send you one. They wont look into reasons why the new card was ordered etc. If it was ordered via telephone banking they made have just ordered you a replacement. If there was a pre approval on your account you would have been transferred through to lending.

  • I was told since the acc is only 2-3 months old it shows no pre-approved cards I had a key acc for two years prior. I had a solo card and they ordered me a visa debit card its light blue like the savings card shown on the website which today shows new and old highline service cards.

I went in last week and filled in a service card application which was sent off to ask for a normal visa debit card which are currently highline 100 cards dark blue.
