    for the faster payments information.
  • Could SKS who was ahead of me opening this with a cheque please let me know roughly how long it took for it to be presented? They had my full deposit SD Tuesday, so I TF funds to cover it from yesterday, but nothing happened then or today... so I've shuffled it back into savings over the weekend.

If it helps, my wife's application was posted 7 Dec, the account was created on 14 Dec (she phoned to check) but the cheque wasn't cleared till 17 Dec. She had an acknowledgement yesterday and the debit card today but still waiting for the code for online access. They told her they were a little busy. :)
  • OK, thanks... could be a few more days then.

    Mine is fairly similar.

I've now had the letter confirming the account is opened etc but my £10K cheque still hasn't gone from my Nationwide account.

Hmmm, I wonder at what point you are deemed to have 'opened' the account?

Interesting one. Once you apply on-line their letter says the application is valid for 28 days. So is the relevant day when you make the on-line application?

Or is it the day they receive the cheque?

Or the day they finally open the account. It took them a week to open my wife's account after she sent the app, with the cash sitting in her current account, so would be some unhappy campers if they added insult to injury and took the day of opening to be when they got round to sorting it out.

Indeed, I think further clarification is needed from them. Perhaps this is where I get my come-uppance for taking a risk on sending an opening deposit cheque for just £1!

I'm in exactly that position, I don't have an account number yet so perhaps my account is not "open"
Just have to withdraw my £1 and look elsewhere unless they remain top of the table. A bit annoying having the main lump of savings waiting in a current account. I'm considering putting it back into Coventry for Christmas. Luckily HSBC and Cov do the faster payments.
I guess if they do deem my account open the 6 months is ticking away with only £1 in it.
