I still have this account and a bit confused about when the 12 months is up exactly.

Is it 12 months from date of application (made on the internet)?

or 12 months from the date of 1st deposit?

The first transaction showing online says : 15 Dec NEW A/C THANK YOU...so assuming it`s that. Just want to make sure.
They required a cheque to open the account so the date the cheque was credited, 15 Dec, was effectively the date of opening - not the date of application.

Can I ask why you're interested in why 12 months is up as the bonus ran for just 6 months as I remember?

It`s earning 2.6% (fixed after 6 months) at the moment which is not bad . I had always been looking at alternative accounts since it dropped to 2.6% but over those months the slightly better earning accounts have only been in the 2.8% range so I didn`t need the hassle of hunting around for the sake of .2% extra.

The FP importantly is very nice and useful to have also (along with unlimited penalty free withdrawals.)

anyway, will be on the lookout again soon. Thanks for reply.

Caught the end of a piece on radio 4 this afternoon. Whoever was talking predicted that if the Irish banks go down Ulster bank would also fail. I was caught in the Icesave debacle so not willing to wait and see what happens. I moved the bulk of my funds from Ulster bank today. Please don't think I'm scaremongering, I have no expertise where banking is concerned. I am aware that my funds would be fully protected by FSCS but I'm not willing to have the money frozen while waiting for any situation to be sorted.

As Ulster Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of RBS, which in turn is 83% owned by the British Government, that seems a little unlikely.

Not really sure why a bank owned by British Govt is unlikely to fail, but I bow to your superior knowledge.

If you think RBS is likely to fail then I'd be interested to know where you've moved the money you've withdrawn and presumably think is safer.
