Lidl Etiquette

Just applied the till etiquette in full this afternoon.
It was a little busy as close to closing time.
Scanned 42 items through without a break. Just piled it all into the trolley!
Half way through I joked to the assistant, c'mon keep up!
She said thanks very much, and took me two mins to pack.
I had gone and the person behind was still slowly packing at the till.
Will adopt the same approach in future.0 -

Do you give way to trolleys on the right, no double parking by the veg, women and children first to the weekly offers ?
Is there a dress code; collar and tie after 6pm ?
Is my First Direct card still acceptable or should I move to Coutts bank ?
I suppose that has been imported by all those posh people that used to shop in Waitrose
:D

I hope I haven't been causing offence as I don't use a trolley. I only ever buy a few bits and pieces (offers, dishwasher stuff, some veg, fig rolls, Stollen:D etc) and I put it straight into my bag, take it out onto conveyor and then back into bag at checkout.0 -
at the OH's store, they have to scan 26 items per minute as a minimum. I quite like shopping at Lidl, (no staff discount though..) but I do wish they'd give you the option of baskets rather than just trolleys.0

I take my own basket similar to this
which i shop with & then pack all my items into perfect for me0 -
Thanks for explaining the Lidl mindset- only been to an Aldi before (but ran away after I saw mould and flies on the fruit) am hoping they have changed! It was 5 years ago!
To add to the pet hates of the supermarket (sorry- couldn't resist!) would be people who queue with about 3 items in their basket, you assume the person is going to be fairly quick and so queue behind them....Only to find 3 minutes later, 4 of their friends, all with separate baskets and wallets all join the person in front of you. This drives me mad! But it happens now so often that I am past having the words or energy to argue anymore- especially when most seem not to speak English (coincidentally?)0 -
In supermarkets in general, what annoys me is:
(iii) those people (usually women) who insist on packing every single item, and only then hunting for their purse and then their card. Why not have the card ready, so that the card validation can be done while they continue packing?
?...
I get so cross with this too - and at cashpoint machines aswell0 -
I remember from when I was a student that they used to pay their staff quite well, too, because of having to memorise the prices. It was known for being somewhere you could get a checkout job paying up to £7 ish an hour (in the late 90s) whereas other checkout jobs were £4 ish (I worked in the greengrocery concession in Kwik Save at the time, which paid the usual going rate except on Sundays which paid better). This was just before national minimum wage came in.When we first started using our local Aldi store, some years ago now, there were no scanners on the tills - the staff had to memorise all the prices. I think at that time it was strictly cash only - no cards or cheques etc.

My local Lidl is advertising for a caretaker/handyman - £7.70 an hour.0
