Lidl Etiquette

Having been a regular Lidl/Aldi shopper for a while, I now find it easier they way they do things.
I can pack properly and carefully (and as slowly as I like) at the packing bench. When I am in other big supermarkets I find myself trying to get the items packed as quickly as possible to 'get out of the way'.
I think Lidl/Aldi staff have a tough time - always seem to be busy doing things, packing shelves and then nipping over to check out customers before whizzing back to the shelves.
I know that many people would find the haste of the checkout a little 'rude' but it works.0 -
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I bet you were happy with yourself:rotfl:
Would have been happier if she had used the manners she should have been taught about 65 years ago, but I am glad to say I haven't seen her try the trick again. Never would have forgiven myself if I had 'minded my own' and let her flatten the very old lady, who was so petite, she was positively sparrowlike.
But yeah, I must admit to feeling a little pleased with myself afterwards.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
When we first started using our local Aldi store, some years ago now, there were no scanners on the tills - the staff had to memorise all the prices. I think at that time it was strictly cash only - no cards or cheques etc.0

When I go shopping with OH, I usually pack as I have a system I use for packing. All the stuff goes in groups of where it goes, and the delicates at the end (which OH ruins by getting beer - he usually runs off to get beer and dilute juice as I unpack, as I'm faster at it than him (used to help my mum do the shopping for 7 of us, I'm used to unpacking and packing)
When I'm in Lidl's/Aldi's I work on the same principle, and usually have a rucksack (as it's about a 20 min walk from my mum's at hers, and 20 mins from home where I am) so all the heavy stuff goes in the bag, on my back and the fragile is carried** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

I may be very lucky at my local Lidl..but the staff ALWAYS stop to greet me properly with genuine smiles, they are so very nice it's good to shop there.
The same can be said of Morrisons...but only VERY early in the morning while the shop is almost empty, they get snappier as they encounter the rude and awkward public and I don't blame them.
If you don't want much at Lidl, and there is a bit of a queue...don't get a trolley, carry it awkwardly almost dropping it to the till, and people almost always offer you a quick jump to the cashier out of sympathy.
I once bought a fridge at Aldi, assuming for some reason that they would arrange delivery or something? I had to drag it to the till just like everything else.

In supermarkets in general, what annoys me is:
(i) people who put their stuff on the belt, just to get ahead in the queue, then disappear to get their remaining items, meaning everyone has to wait until they come back
(ii) couples where one person (usually the bloke) just stands around doing nothing, while the other does *all* the packing- doesn't he realise that by helping out, they could reduce the packing time by half?
(iii) those people (usually women) who insist on packing every single item, and only then hunting for their purse and then their card. Why not have the card ready, so that the card validation can be done while they continue packing?
Am I turning into Victor Meldrew I wonder?...
Add to this, the people behind in the queue who are so irrationally impatient. How do they think it helps themselves, or anybody, when they are at the end of the conveyor belt, with 3 or 4 customers ahead of them, & they start pushing the goods of the person in front so they can squeeze their shopping on - as though there wasn't plenty of time when the belt moves up a bit! Then, when the person in front of them is loading their trolley, they come up right behind, so they're in front of the card machine, & have to move back to allow the customer to pay. Where do they think it gets them?0 -

The same can be said of Morrisons...
I live in a small town and shop in Somerfield and Morrisons. Most of the staff in both shops are very nice and greet me with a big smile.
However, when I pass the staff from Morrisons on the street they ignore me, apart from one young lad who always says hello. But the staff from Somerfield always say hello when they see me on the street, and some actually stop and have a conversation with me.
I have come to the conclusion that the staff in Morrisons are only nice when they are being paid to be nice.0 -
Having shopped in Lidl for years, I must confess that I didn't realise that there was now a code of etiquette to follow !
Do you give way to trolleys on the right, no double parking by the veg, women and children first to the weekly offers ?
Is there a dress code; collar and tie after 6pm ?
Is my First Direct card still acceptable or should I move to Coutts bank ?
I suppose that has been imported by all those posh people that used to shop in Waitrose:D

That's all fine by me, but my local Lidl doesn't have a packing area but still expects you to pack it away from the till. Now that does annoy me. Victoria Meldrew perhaps:p0
