Hi everyone,
We have taken a very large financial hit this month, but have still managed to find the full £500 overpayment. I think some of it may have ended up coming from the savings but I'm determined to keep the momentum up on this so that I feel like at least some of my money has been spent positively this month!
Hopefully the rest of the year won't have any more nasty surprises, although time will tell if I can find the full £500 next month!0 -
Got a holiday coming up and other things so will be aiming to make a smaller overpayment on 1st Feb. Around £350 which I'll be pleased with as we said we wouldn't overpay anything in Jan and Feb because of other payments etc. So to get to around £600 for the first two months, I'm more than happy.
I think we could put more in but I'm gonna make sure we add to our savings account aswell as overpay from now on. Never know what's around the corner..0 -
pollys we are also with Halifax. We used to take a cheque in and have a standing order but if you have your accounts online including mortgage, you can pay directly in on the website. We only found this out last week
ironman I've just tried to make an additional overpayment from my Halifax current acc to my Halifax mortgage which are both on-line and the message is "you have entered an invalid account number. How do you manange this please as it would be very useful for us to transfer small amounts without altering our standing order or going into the branch.

Having a small disaster of a month. car issues etc. OP is only £16.35 so far this month but i hope to be adding to that as we move forward. Wehave the added difficulty of actually trying to sell up and upsize obvipusly increasing our mortgage size so we have been spending bringing this place up to selling standard.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

It's lovely to read of everyone making such good progress, and for those who have had difficult months, keep motivated..every penny counts..
Ironman - it's lovely to know there is others in our situation - e.g. shared ownership, and long term..and that others are overpaying the same as us..
So far we've managed £250 which is our normal standing order amount...have a couple of cheques from overpaying nursery fees, which I'd be happy to add to the mortgage..my aim is to get it down to 72k this year (so total of £3,800 ish overpayment)..we are also with the halifax..this may be a thick question, but how do we overpay with cheques..we don't have a payment book or anything like that, but I've got the details of our mortgage account number etc (I must look like such a MFW novice)
Off to do a mystery shop this afternoon, so will have a lovely family meal out, and only have to put £2 or £3 to it at the most..have a lovely SundayJune wins: 2 x Robbie Williams tickets, iPad mini, £200 skatehut voucher
A huge thank you to all posters xx0 -

Polly i have read on other threads that if your current account and mortgage are both with halifax then you cannot make overpayments on line. My mortgage is with halifax but my current account isnt and i have no problem making overpayments. Not sure why they have this policy but im sure it is really annoying for you because i assume that you either have to overpay in branch or over the phone. Hallo to everyone. I have only recently discovered this site and these boards and have been reading avidly. I have very limited time for posting but thought I would join this group as you all seem to make such things as an overpayment possible.
I thought only very rich people, or perhaps folk who inhertited money, were the only ones who repaid their mortgage early. I will endeavour to join you.
Thanks for the inspirational postings.

I'm also with Halifax (you aren't my missus are ya?!).
If you have online banking, you can pay direct into the mortgage account, it beats queuing up in the bank and you can OP whenever.
If not, you write a cheque to yourself and pay it in at the branch, it's stupid really but thats the only other way!0
