Congratulations Moniker - we've taken the approach that everything else can wait until the mortgage goes. We need (want really) a new front door, new toilet, bathroom, kitchen, flooring, stairs, internal doors and skirtings and a multitude of electronic gadgetry that I've denied myself over the last few years. I can't imagine any of that being worth more than not having a mortgage though! Best of luck to you.
Cheers,

I've just got back from hols and didn't spend anything on my credit card while I was away, so have managed to double my OP this month to £1000. Brings me within 2 months of making my target for 2010.....fingers crossed! What goes around comes around.....I hope!0

Hi Cake,
No 65 reporting in here a little bit late with my August OP. Total for the month came to £1630.81 - very exciting as we're about £400 short of the halfway point.
Congratulations to ironman1 on the great news!0 -
In quite a unique position now where my priorities have changed quite dramatically - I'd set aside about £25k to renovate the inside of my house in some deluded and mostly pointless search of perfection (when I bought it, it really wasn't that bad, and in a much better condition than a lot of other houses anyway) but only now am I seeing the error of my ways and want to put that towards actually overpaying the mortgage.
In fact, my original estimates for everything for the house (renovations and furnishings) came to just over £35k, I was lucky to have seen the error of my ways (better late than never right?) and my actual spend could be almost half of that - so will hopefully get to overpay a lot now. Another £2k down by the way as a result, which means I've already reached my target, albeit in rather odd circumstances, hopefully there'll be more to come if I can continue to keep the costs right down!
The next thing will be the doors. Do I really need to pay all that money to get them nicely decorated and glossed, or is it something I could have a go at myself and help a lot towards the overpayments again? The latter is sounding quite tempting right now, if indeed they even need doing!0 -
Morning all!
I've done it!! I'm in the new house, gave the keys of the rental house back to to L/L yesterday afternoon (OMG - it was immaculate - like an Navy marchout!!) Got my full deposit back so will be making my first OP this month . . .
And my mortgage is 11 days old today!!One life.0
