If your interest is calcualted daily then the sooner you pay it the better (but check your mortgage T&C's - sometimes they charge interest daily but only apply credits once a month). If you told them to shorten length then that is correct, the payment will stay the same each month, but the extra goes towards the capital :)
Many thanks, is there a way I can change this do you know? I mean if you end up paying the same amount anyway, I'm thinking lower payments would be more beneficial (free up cash in the short term if you need it) rather than simply shortening the term... I mean, I imagine you can shorten the term anyway if you continue to overpay at a good rate, or have I misunderstood (soz)

You may be able to do over the phone - worth a try - otherwise write to them saying you want all overpayments to reduce monthly payment.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

£253 paid in for this month, lower than usual but as I said earlier we have found out my GF is pregnant so money will be tighter. Still wanna hit my target before 2011 though!

Moniker reporting in - made OP last week and regular payment went on today so balance updated below. Will break the magic sub 10k barrier at the end of this month!

I am hoping that if we carry on saving as we have done I will have an amount equal to the outstanding balance which I may be able to pay off by the end of the year (currently not allowed to OP by more than £500 pm by NW). Might be possible depending on whether we have to support DD1 in her studies abroad, or if we go ahead with some home improvements such as replacing our front door. If we can do it I would consider it the best Christmas present ever!

Good luck everyone - the end is in sight!
