WOW you're all doing so well, Barny well done! :T

I took myself away couple of months ago as we had to use most of our £1,029 for unforseen things  still l'm pleased to say my OP pot is getting back upto our last limit and with hubby doing an extra weeks overtime at work we should be able to OP £400 per month from this month so hopefully we'll still reach our £5K target this year. :j

I'm also selling lots of baby bits l don't need anymore and got some car booting coming up - l'm determined to do this!

    Happy moneysaving all.

Hit a bit of a snag. We went for a provisional Council Tax banding when we first moved in back in March. We went for Band C. I did a quick calculation via this site and it turns out we could be looking at either D or E! If it's E it'll mean an extra £60 ish per month. Will await the valuation officer's final outcome (he/she is coming next week), but my guess is that this will impact on the amount I can OP. We'll see and I'm sure I can find a way to continue OPing in line with my 2010 target. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for this. We're off to Norfolk a week today. Village pub brews it's own beer so looking forward to that! Managed to save plenty for the hols so can go away and enjoy and any underspend can go towards OP or Council Tax - we'll see. Thanks again and keep you posted as the year rolls on.

    Hello All,

Thank you everyone who's posted this month- it's good to be amongst like-minded folk :D.

Here are my totals for June:

    June Overpayment: £1250 :D
    2010 Total so far: £8835 :D
Overpay Target £10000 (only £1165 left to reach target :D)
    2010 MFW #52

When my regular payment goes out in a couple of days, it will bring the balance below £80000 :j:j. That's one third of the mortgage gone in 5 years 3 months. Most of the balance reduction has been over the past three years as we couldn't afford to overpay much at first. Also most of our house has been renovated in that time so I am very happy that the mortgage has been reduced so much. Also since our normal payment gets reduced, we are in a better position to cope with OH being out of work after his contract ends.
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.
    MFW OPd 2014 £2000 2013 £9700 2012 £2848.39 2011 £2509.58 2010 £11000 2009 £112002008 £4939 :D

    New MFW target £5000 overpayments by 31/12/2105 £400/£5000 = 8%
    SAVINGS TARGET - £25000 by 31/12/2015 £13643/£25000 = 55%

Further to this post, I've had a bit of good news. Not sure what Council Tax will be yet, but I've just cancelled my gym membership (£50 per month), which will cancel out any Council Tax rises give or take a few pounds :) This won't kick in straight away, but at least I can continue OPing in line with my original target. Happy days. I do quite a bit of cycling and running and as this is free it's an easy gain cancelling my gym membership. I'm now a happy chappy. Have a good weekend all.

    Hi all,

Anyone interested in a longer challenge than this 2010 challenge?

Just been reviewing the members in the Mortgage Free in Three – Take 2 (MFiT-T2) challenge and there are a number of members who expressed an interest in joining during the registration period (09/01/2009 to 31/12/2009), but failed to set a mortgage reduction objective and not provided any chart updates to date.

Six months on, we’re no longer offering any new positions, but instead freeing up these slots to anyone who would like to join for the remainder of the challenge – ending on 12/12/12.

There are eight (8) ‘free slots’ to fill. The numbers to allocate are: 35, 37, 43, 117, 121, 128, 144 and 177. Numbers allocated on a first come, first served basis, but if you fancy a particular number and you get there first, you’re welcome to have that one…

If you could post your interest in the challenge thread, which is here:

    Many thanks,

    Financial Bliss / Maz123.
