whats the weather like my old dog used to do this if there was a strom coming, porbley noise that we carnt pick up on ?

With a storm coming - many animals can tell by the drop in pressure. My westie gets really freaked out by this - just last night she was acting strange and at first we thought it was fireworks just because of the time of the year but i then realised it's just a storm coming - she 'feels' it about an hour before it really hits. And she was right - once it had almost gone she was back to her normal self and just fell asleep at the foot of the bed like usual.

With my dog you can tell by her weird impatient behaviour, she gets scared to go outside, her breathing turns into a continuous pant and she'll most likely wee a bit somewhere. It's a pain, but once you know why you can help them deal with it - i'd say keep them out of carpetted rooms and swaddle them in a blanket of you can (while cuddling them). ;)

  • By a storm, last night we just had VERY windy and rainy weather - i didn't actually hear any thunder or see an lightening - but animals can hear and 'feel' the changes from so far away, and we can't. So it may seem like they are freaking out for no reason but they have a good one really. It was prob that, or fireworks!

I wouldn't let yourself get worked up about ghosts/spirits as the chances of it being that are sooooo slim if any chance at all! ;)

Dogs hearing is quite acute. My stepdad's unit in the western desert in WW2 had a dog which adopted them. It went berserk when it heard a plane, which was long before the men could hear or see it.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

When humans are thinking about what something is they do odd things with their eyes ...hence this smiley

Maybe he was expecting fireworks again or could hear something that you couldn't and was trying to decide what it was ?

My local pub landlady has two dogs, they start to howl in flat upstairs in the afternoon ...nothing around at first..then minutes later her car pulls round the corner about 100 yds away. How they hear it or know it's her car, no-one knows. It's a daily event and they do know though.

Spooks you doesn't it ? :rotfl:

My dog (chocolate lab) occasinally acts like this but never for very long. The last time it happened was last week. I was taking washing out of the washing machine and folding it at the time. His bed is next to the washing machine so it's something he sees me doing day in and day out! He was curled up in his bed just looking around and all of a sudden he jumped out of the bed in complete terror, turned round and cowered in the corner looking back at it. He made me jump out of my skin! He then crept over and started looking at the quilt in it really carefully and kept jumping back. I couldn't see anything at all but he refused to sleep on it for the night!! Freaked me out too so can imagine how you're feeling!

Could he perhaps have received a static shock if you were doing the laundry nearby? ;)
