My dog's behaviour is beginning to scare me.

Harley (our lab) is acting really strangely tonight. It's as if he can see something we can't and he's scared. I thought it was maybe fireworks he was hearing, but I dont think there are any going off at the moment. Even if there were, I'd be surprised if that's what was bothering him as he's been fine up till now.

He sits at my feet and looks around the room slowly, the way he would if he was watching a fly for example. There aren't any flies though. He's squashed himself into the corner (half under the table) beside my son but he'll get up and follow us if we leave the room. He's so close to us he is literally pushing against our legs. He's very unsettled and wont relax and slob out the way he usually does, he's acting like a scared child who tries to make themselves very small so they can hide in the corner. It's the way he seems to follow something with his eyes that's bothering me, there's just nothing there.

He's actually beginning to freak me out a bit with the weird way he's acting.

What on earth is up with him?

That was in reply to laura btw.

cabdygirl, if it was just the fireworks though, why does he look like he's watching something move?

Possibly hearing mice/rats in the walls or under the floor boards. They do attempt to come inside at this time of year.
  • I hate to say, but, ghosts?

Ghosts LOL. Its just far off fireworks, most dogs are the same.

The "watching something move" is it moving its head for better hearing.

It could also be a neighbours baby crying or people arguing or even singing. It could be a cat or foxes fighting outside.

Lots of logical explanations. He can just hear something that you can't. And if he is seeing you react to his reaction it tells him that whatever he hears is something to worry about so he gets clingy.

I haven't heard a firework all evening, but the blooming dog's heard plenty ! Earlier he tried to get behind the curtains, until he realised that was worse, and he's been gawping at the walls and the ceilings.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
