Plan for illness - single parents especially!

Options
Speaking from (current :-/) experience, make sure you have either a weeks worth of meals in the freezer, and/or a spare stash of cash for the odd takeaway in case you are incapacitated and your kids arent old enough to cook!
I feel really crud today because i got the kids some ready made fishcakes ::) but thats only because the shop near the school didnt have any frozen pizza!

this would apply for first time parents really to help maintain good moneysaving habits even when you are sleep deprived and covered in baby excretions. ;) eating properly makes all the difference.

Hope you're feeling better soon, Ssaver! :-*

And it's a good idea even if you don't have kids, because there's always those days when we all don't feel up to cooking. :-/

but if you have enough one-person servings then you can all have one but just have different ones. it would be typical if the kids fight over which meal they have though, even if it's something they normally don't like ::)

since making a HUGE quantity of risotto last night i now have 2x 2 person sized portions in the freezer ;D Started making an inventory of my freezer contents. Part of me says thats really sad, but I know it is really practical. ;)

Also good to know who your friends are. ;D When I was in the depths of PND, I had one who would sometimes come when I called just to do the washing up, because by teatime on some days I could cope with washing up, or feeding the boys, but not both, and unfortunately the washing up sometimes had to be done before I could get started on the tea ... Bless him!

Hope you are continuing to feel better, SSaver!

LOL! I did exactly that yesterday. Now ... I have a monster of a freezer (tall cabinet - about 6 feet tall with 7 drawers!) and when I want to make something I can never remember what's in there. You know .. now do I have kidneys to make steak & kidney pie? Or not?

I've done mine in a table in Word so I can sort by "drawer" or by "type" e.g. beef, bread whatever.

having made the list, you then need to update it whenever you take something out or put something in! And you have to train everyone else in the house to do the same ... groan ... my partner never labels the stuff he puts in so I'm damn sure he won't be marking the list up! Grump! >:(

    :)

but the wierdest thing is i have 3 pots of cream in the freezer, and a handful of prawns with their shells still on. What could I make with that!!!
Tinned food i think is underestimated, and i usually have enough to make a few meals, like tomato soup, tuna, hot dog sausages. I was brought up on tinned food as far as I can remember ;D

I've got a freezer in kitchen and large chest freezer in garage which I rarely go in, (kids take shopping out to it and go to get things out of it for me)
so I'm going to take a look later to see what surprises it holds ;D
