Appealing an increased parking fine...

My girlfriend had her car towed 2 weeks ago on a friday afternoon. She got the car back and parked it in the appropriate zone, only to return to her car after the weekend away to find it had been towed AGAIN. The reason for this was that it was left over a weekend and the parking permit had expired without her knowledge.

When she collected the car from the pound she found that she also had 2 parking tickets from the time over the weekend before being towed the second time.

She has taken the hit and has paid £200 for the original towing Plus £50 ticket, the £200 for the SECOND towing plus £50 ticket and another £50 each for the 2 other tickets. £600 in one weekend for 2 offences!!!!

I don't think anything can be done about the above, but the kicker is this: Last night she found that there was in fact a 5th ticket that weekend, which because she didn't have it, she didn't pay it, which means it is now doubled in price to £100!!

Is there anyone with experience of this happening and is it possible to appeal the 5th ticket's now inflated cost, seeing as it's obvious that you wouldn't pay off 4 tickets and not the 5th if you knew you had it?

To clarify

- One £50 ticket with £200 removal charge
- Another £50 ticket with £200 removal charge
- 2 x £50 tickets
- 1 x £50 ticket now increased to £100.

This is Hounslow Council by the way.

It is entirely possible to challenge both of the removal incidents. Such cases are often won.

You need to show ALL --- yes ALL the documents you received at the time.

For the other PCNs you need to clarify dates, etc. For the missed one a straightforward appeal based on 'no PCN served' for a start.

Potentially loads of other angles - show pics of location -- road markings and signage.

Note to Sarah, Coupon, Cobl, Peter, etc.
OK-- what's the betting on this one, LOL ???????????
  • Don't forget to remove any identifying marks, names, addresses, vrm. Leave dates and times and where.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Sorry if it's unclear, it's because the posters know what they need to see and what they need you to show - and we sometimes assume you may have read other threads and seen what sort of images are needed.

Please humour us, it will be worth it I hope. We want to help you get your money back. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Please scan in all the documents, front and back, including all the small print which you may think is standard. Make it clear which image relates to which ticket, by posting the images in groups (separate posts for each PCN/tow/receipt paperwork if that would make it clearer to read). But blank out any ID info re yourself or the car itself (but don't blank out dates or anything else).

Also, please take some clear pictures, if possible, of where she was parked, the bays, the lines and the final end markings if it's a long parking bay, and also the signs. This would help to establish where the alleged offence occurred. If that's not possible at all, then try to find an image on Google Street View, or tell us the street & description of the place where she parked (but your own pics are best).

See the sticky thread 'how to upload images' here:

If you have any problems once you've read the link above then post again, people here can help you. Hope to see the images soon.

In the meantime, here are some towing cases from a search I just did on the parking forum on pepipoo.com. Read through them to see what sort of info is needed and what sort of success people had, etc. Some posts are quite old but plenty of cases are being appealed right now on pepipoo. Reading other people's experiences may encourage you to realise that people can get their money back where a tow/ticket/signage is unfair/wrong:

  • I think because the parking permit had expired there is not much chance of appealing the initial ticket and tow, but I wonder if it's a bit of overkill for them to slap a further 4 tickets on the car, and also to double the cost of one?

What course of action should we take?
  • A good course of action is not to ask for help and then ignore the replies telling you how you can help them help you, without even saying WHY you're ignoring them.

Like Coupon-mad says: "You have nothing to lose and everything to gain." Scan the tickets!

Please read in full my post above, I thought I had explained it clearly?

Please read the sticky about how to post images and also, for your own info, read about some of the cases in the link I gave to towing cases appealed on pepipoo. I posted that because I gathered you were unsure and don't realise how many people can and do successfully reclaim such unfair tickets & towing fees.

Then please post the images of everything asked for - think of it as being paid £700 to do this, not a bad hourly rate for uploading a few scans and pics?!

Don't leave out the one you've mentioned, you could well have reason to claim it all back. Why on earth would you NOT appeal one of the tickets when you've already paid it and we are all saying you have a good chance of a FULL refund?

Please stop trying to talk yourself out of getting YOUR money back. We have given you enough info to see that you could/should go ahead and appeal them all.

It's your call now, it's in your interests to please post all of those images for further advice.
