    Morning chicks!

Well, guess what? Being a newly engaged person, I went out and bought a lovely big bridal magazine, for the drooling of the dresses. And OMG! If I wasn't in debt to begin with, I certainly would b after paying out for a wedding! £17k they reckon on the whole shebang. That's disgraceful! I love his lordship to bits, and I'm over the Moon to be Mrs Lovely Boyfriend. But I just can't afford to marry him.

So we're going to sit down, work out what we want and then see how little we can get away with paying for it! Hmm, I feel another book coming on...

Well chicks, I hope you're all getting geared up for another year of hard DFW debt assassination. Hands up all those with their DFD falling this year? Time to sit down, write out our plans for the year and look at our bedgets again. I hope you've all been proud of yourselves this year, we all rock.

I'm off to read an ebook I downloaded about cheap weddings, and see what other nuggets I can come across!
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Current Pay Off Target : £1500

Hello Obi, huge congrats on the engagement!! Don't panic about wedding costs, we got married on a £3k budget (and knowing what I know now about money saving, could have done it much cheaper).

My sister in law got married last year, and only spent a few hundred (dress in Debenhams sale, hired local function room and got local caterers to do a cheap buffet, then had a DJ at night & a fancy dress party. They had a fab day, everyone commented on how much fun it had been (and people were well impressed with the cheap beer as well, as it was actually a Working Mens Club, which happened to have quite a nice function room - no flocked wallpaper lol).

If you are blissfully happy, and with the right person, the day will be happy and memorable whatever you do. Love and happiness have very little to do with the wedding, and everything to do with the marriage.

(And don't worry about the MIL - when we told mine we were getting married, she told us she 'might not be able to get the day off work' so probably wouldn't be able to come! Needless to say, she did come, and we get on fine now!)

First off, what a great thread I have just wasted many hours sat at work yesterday and today reading this instead of working :rotfl:

Remember it's the wedding that matters not the cost, we got married in a Registry office, had the reception at the local sports club (Buffet) and spent the weekend in London (via train) the wedding car was my mothers little Datsun Cherry being driven by my best man
    In 15 months we've been married 25 years :A

congrats, Obi. My dd is getting married soon..no dress, no flowers, no bridesmaids, no cars, no cake, no disco, no first dance etc....it's a humanist wedding and it all sounds good fun and not too expensive..future sil is not even going to wear a tie..they could afford it but would rathwer spend the dosh on other things. good luck with it
