  • Hope he has some luck at the docs then. Sounds nasty, but should soon go away.

    Morning chickees,

My goodness it's been a while - have I mentioned my lappy died before Xmas? Urgh, logged on once I got a new adaptor (after 2 weeks waiting, cheers local pooter shop. Not) and found 579 emails in my hotmail. Total 'useful' emails? 0. Not sure why people think I need parts of my body enlarged, filling up with various pharmecuticals or that I need to find a hot sexy female for fun and frolics, but apparently I do.

So finally got a connection, Xmas is well and truly over - I am already putting stuff aside for next year (smug face). Mainly stuff I got this year that is....um...appreciated but.....not suitable. Like the perfume I was given by a well meaning relative. Made me smell like a dead dog, and I spent Xmas arvo trying to scrub it off my skin. Boxing day I still had a faint whiff of rotting canine, it was worse than that Britney Spears one. People kept sniffing and looking round the room for the source. I kid ye not.

So back to money-saving, got rid of all my 'smallies' and now just plodding on with the big debt. I don;t know about you, but at some point when you have a huge amount of debt, I just think 's*d it, they get their payment, they're not getting any more.' I worked out at current rate I'm going to be paying it back for over 20 years, even if I snowball it I'm looking at 15. So why kill myself now, deprive the family of the days out etc? Is it just me, should I be putting averything I have towards it? Sigh, some of you guys are kicking debt !!!, I've paid off 9k over the last few years and I'm just tired now. If it was only 5 years, then I'd probably be manic over it, but it's such a huge amount I just can't see the point. So what if I overpay £20? What's a drop compared to the Atlantic?

So guys, any words of wisdom for a worn down old moneysaver?

Humph, put myself in a bad mood now lol. I'm going to have to find a property website for Orlando now to cheer myself up...that's my excuse.

Todays Tip: Check the budget you've no doubt go for this year/month. It's going to be the first round of bills out shortly of the New Year. Have you covered everything? Make sure you start the year off right!
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Current Pay Off Target : £1500

    Hey Obi

I can see exactly what you mean about small overpayments not really making a big difference. Have you had a play with the snowball calculator to see if the odd £20 here and there WOULD make much of an impact?

Could you set yourself smaller targets? Such as.....if your debt is going to take 20 years to repay, just aim to bring that down to 18? Once you get there, then aim for 15, then 10....etc. So you're not tackling something that seems impossible all at once.

If not, what about setting yourself a savings target instead? Aim to save up say £2k, and pay that all off in one go? Or aim to get below £15k by a specific date?

I work for a major multinational company, and in our annual presentation this year, when they talked about the business over the next 12 months or so, their major message was 'baby steps - every little helps (no I don't work for Tesco lol) - just keep going'. it amused me a bit, I thought 'how DFW', lol. :)

I think 10k is pretty much my limit in terms of distance and motivation to be honest - I'm definitely not a marathon runner. I'm looking forward to the 'Run for All' though now that I'm managing to run a couple of times a week again. :)
