Road Rage?

Options
Hi All,

We'd been away to do loads of stuff, big shop, a market, work calls. Coming back home, we pulled out of a junction, a car appeared from nowhere doing terrific speed. My OH speeded up, the car drove right up against our bumper, lights flashing. Oh oh I thought - this must be road rage. The car over took us, the passenger - a woman leant out of her window & threw something at our car, I think it was a coin. It missed the windscreen by an inch & chipped the top of the bonnet. It sped off, but noticed a 'Child On Board' sticker in the rear window! Nice parents eh.

A few miles down the road there was road works, and they were pulled up infront of us, so I took down their registration number. I wanted to go into the Police Station & report it, but OH said, let's just get home - they won't even make a report & we needed to get back for animal stuff.

They eventually pulled off the road & the guy gave me the one fingered salute.
I couldn't believe it. We didn't pull out in front of them. The woman could have taken out our windscreen. I think that must of been their intention. They must have been doing over 90mph.

Where & at what time did this happen? What road and at what junction? Cars don't tend to appear out of nowhere to be honest.

If a car is at your bumper the correct thing to do is slow down in case something happens in front of you and so you don't have to slam quickly on your brakes and end up with them going into the back of you. Or you can just pull over. Its really not worth the hassle of getting too involved in a situation like that.

As for the coin throwing incident you could report the car to your local council of littering from a vehicle as techincally it was littering. Depending on how seriously your local council takes reports like that they could get a Fixed Penalty Fine (you would have to give your details though).

However the car may not be registered on DVLA or be a pool car hence why they acted the way they did as they know no-one would be able to trace them.

I doubt the police would be that interested but it may well be worth ringing as they might already be after the car.
  • In Switzerland, this would not happen as all reistration plates are personal and the names and addresses are listed in widely vailable media.

    Report them.

If the coin they threw left a mark on yoru car, phone your local police none emergency number and report them.

Are you 100% sure they were doing over the speed limit for the road? I had a blue van pull out infront of me the other day, and I was doing the 60mph speed limit and had to brake hard, and ended up very near their bumper.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

The speed they were doing was way way over the limit. We were just pulling out of the junction when it appeared & then seemed to speed up even more, as if they were trying to 'impress', be idiots - who knows? It was 3.45pm & what difference does it make to you where the junction is? You won't know it unless you live in the Highlands.

When they over took us they must have been doing at least 90mph - we were near the limit of 60mph - It disappeared at great speed & then got caught up in the road works - bet that !!!!ed them off. When they pulled off & drove towards Inverness the woman looked the other way, the guy, though giving the fingered salute looked chastened. I think they thought they'd disappear into the horizon & would have known we'd get their registration down when they were stuck at the road works.

It's a fast road & you do double take at that junction - we did. Being an ex biker you always double check. They were tanking on & then actually speeded up.
We ecselerated when they speeded up initially as we thought they were going to ram us.
I think the coin thing is really nasty stuff & I'm surprised that none of you seem that surprised at this behaviour - we've never known the like here.
  • Report them to the police - damage to your, might even be worth getting your insurance company involved as they can do a bit of chasing and put pressure on the other persons insurance.

The policy probably wont do anything though as they are useless

OH doesn't want to report it - says it will be a waste of time.
Just think there is some very nasty folks about.
Thing is when they were caught at the road works & we pulled up behind them, I noticed they had a sticker on their bumper which said 'if you can read this you're too close' - Ironic of them.

If you don't report them then they are going to think even more that they can do as they please.
