MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Should Gwyneth give the lady her reduced steak?

In the interest of the health of the pensioner I'd keep the steak. Clearly her brain is already addled as she's mistaken the freezer cabinet for her shopping basket and red meat will only hasten her decline.0

Don't let her have it, she sounds a fly old woman who is just playing on your good manners. I experience people like her every night at my local supermarket where you meet the 'Regulars' out for a bargain, and most like me are not short of a bob or two.0 -
Yah snooze yah loose sweetheart
If it was the other way round she wouldn't hand it over, so tough.

As a little old lady myself I still say if she'd wanted it she should have put it in her basket in the first place. It reminds me of when I used to rush round the shops in my lunch hour from work and the old dears would try and jump the queue at the till. If you can tell me which supermarket it was in though I'll rush round this evening!!0

no no no!
We usually shop around 8 oclock due to work so it's chance if we catch the reductions.in the unlikely event I actually manage to get to the front of the scrum you get kicked, poked, elbowed, shoved and practically tripped over and 80% of the time its the same ruthless harmless little old dear doing it. Everytime we shop shes in there.
You wouldnt hum and ah about a 50p steak it would go straight in your shopping basket. tough luck love its a cruel world. If shoppers in general were polite I would definatly give it to her I'm not a yob but in my experiance of reductions its every man women and child for themselves. See I wouldn't get the steak in the first place cos usually im the idiot who trys to wait my turn. lol:heart2:Got Married 1st may '10!:heart2:

I hate to generalize but honestly a significant proportion of the pensioners that I come into contact with are exactly as described in post#4: Mean-spirited, grumpy, bad-mannered people who complain about the youth of today but set such an oh-so-shining example of how not to behave that it"s impossible to have any sympathy. They seem to think they have a right to jump the queue because they"re old, that they should get special treatment because of their age.
Sorry missus, you put it down, so now it"s mine. You"ve had 60+ years to learn what a shopping basket is for, tough! The trouble with common sense is... it isn't really that common!0 -

Then the next time it happened I'd do exactly the same again....
Haha, nice to know it's not just me
It's a bit of a catch 22 - either I'd feel guilty for keeping the steak or stupid for giving it up!0 -
no i don't think the old lady should have it.. she would have put it in her basket if she had wanted it. and i don't really want anyone patronising me because I'm older...!!! she's a liar and a manipulator...0

No - as others have said it is fair game if it's on the shelf and not in someone else's basket/trolley...I don't care if you 'saw' it first. Besides, since I usually shop with my iPod on, I won't hear her anyway!
From my experience, the people who really exploit the reduced items are supermarket staff themselves after they've finished a shift...obviously getting colleagues to put aside stuff in advance and keep it off the shopfloor. I've seen lots of yellow-stickered produce go through the till for pennies over the years (I used to work in a supermarket during my student days - I admit I abused my pricing gun privileges)."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

The old lady hasnt played the age card. Read the question! It doesnt say she claimed it because she was old, it says she claimed it because she put it down while she was browsing.
So regardless of age, if the other shopper was polite, then I'd be happy to hand it over, but if they were rude about it then I would keep it purely out of spite, even if it was an item that I didnt really want much in the first pace.
Theres no excuse for rudeness and I beleive in Karma !!!0
