Recession? What Recession?

Went to Yo Sushi tonight in Aberdeen.

A line out the door and a 25 minute wait for seats.

£67 for food for two people, and a drink each.

Still a line out the door when we left.

Very few signs of a recession in Aberdeen......

Is it because their houses are flooded?

Maybe the recession killed off all other competition.
  • I have to say that I've not seen any signs of recession. Until very recently when we bought a new house and are having to think about selling the current one I was totally oblivious to it all. But even the housing market doesn't seem to be in too bad a state. And at the end of the day you're selling one house at a slightly lower price and buying a new one at a slightly lower price - so what's the big deal?

We're self employed and in the past couple of years our sales have increased quite a bit. Prices have come down (lower vat) so I can buy more with my pennies. We haven't had to tighten our belts at all and from what I see nor does anyone else. There's plenty of spending.

I realise some people are hit hard by unemployment. Others struggle to borrow/get a mortgage. But for most people I get the impression that it's business as usual. I'm in Glasgow - Scotland. Maybe it's different here?

  • Perhaps the soup kitchen was busier than normal...

Went down to the soup kitchen tonight to donate some food. Local people are helping the kitchen provide about a 1,000 meals a week to those affected by the current economic climate.

    amazing

so some people enjoy a benefit
    and some see no difference
and some are a bit worse off
    and some in despair

    but that's OK

    presumably a price worth paying.
