LOL. Would be funny to stick a 5p piece on the conveyor and watch the locals torture themselves scheming how to snaffle it away without being noticed.0 -

Don't you realise that's how copper wire was invented, two Aberdonians fighting over a penny
The Scots invented quite a lot of other things you know:wall:

Here's your recession, as it's really hard to find... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/recession/4539101/38000-companies-expected-to-go-bust.html
Try searching for "companies that went bust in the UK" 1st link on google - maybe my ten years in IT has served me well afterall.0 -

Is it possible that we may have moved on since then
I did hear that Sir Alan Sugar had a go at small businesses for being whingers.
I wonder what he would make of most people on here:wall:

That's exactly my point, can you say hand on heart that we're now in a better position?
btw,
I'd like to see Sir Alan call me a whinger to my face0 -

.
As was mine.
Our unemployment doubled.....
From 1.5% to 3%.
Doesn't mean those people ended up in soup kitchens though.....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

As I've said previously the Government uses this area as a bell weather for the wider economy due to the wide diversity of employers. Apparently what happens here tends to relect 6 months later in the country as a whole.
when did we have 2% unemployment?
2007 unemployment level was about 1.6 million, that's already 6%.
6% to 9% is a lot of people but it could have been much, much worse if the Government did not take its actions.0 -
Hamish was it any good? Thinking of going next week!0

I'm talking about a very localised area which for many years has been a growth area in employment terms. All areas locally have been hit manufacturing, industrial, finance, distribution, leisure and small business. The only remaing areas left are the NHS and Local Council. Both are indicating cut backs in the future with shortfalls in budgets.
We don't have soup kitchens. But we do have organised food collection and distribution to help those in need. Community spirit is alive and well around here.0 -
