Mr Matey, other places have the trolleys. For dimsum we go to The New World, Gerrard place, off Shaftsbury (next to the fire station :)). (Family tradition mainly, but its good). We have all our own family names for the things. DH gets really offended when they point out here is pork or prawn in stuff, which makes me giggle.

Its weird dim sum (and the trolleys) is probably my very favourite food

Same here, and I've gotten my fiancee addicted to it. We go to Dim Sum most weekends, and after sampling most of the places around Chinatown our favourite is Jade Garden on Wardour Street. The food there's the best, although if you get seated downstairs expect the waiters to swipe everything off your table and present you with a bill as soon as you take your last bite. Bit rude, but if the food's good I don't really mind. Also they don't accept 1 or 2 pence which is kinda funny. Guess they don't like smart-a$$es like me dumping a whole load of coins on them.

I've been to The New World, and that was also one of the better ones.

We also have a few names for dishes - e.g. we call the savoury croquettes (I think that's what they're called here) "Scud Missiles". I got some friends to teach me how to order our favourites in Chinese, which came in very handy when we were in Germany!

LOL, I've been to the Jade Garden too. :) Our names include ''slobby prawn'' and ''BO slice''. We don't tend to order BO slice. :D

Oh goodness, I REALLY want dim sum now. :( If I left now..................................:o sigh.

Haha great names! I think you should order "BO Slice" more often. I can just imagine the look on the waiter's face... :rotfl:

All Hamish has proven is that (surprise surprise) he has more money than sense.

£40+ on the Sushi equivalent of Nando's. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

Little Tokyo restaurant in Leeds is very good.

Always preferred Dim Sum myself, even before it became trendy. By actual quality of food, the Yang Sing in Manchester is probably the best I've been to (price much lower than quoted for that Yo Sushi meal). In London New World (trollies), So China (good quality but rather limited range) and Crispy Duck (on Gerrard Street) are the best. The last of those has a huge range despite the unpromising name, although they do pack in the punters a bit.

    Chicken's feet...Mmmmm

Argh, what a weird coincedence, I just got back from lunch and the big blackboard menu had chicken feet on it, and they were free!

What are the chances of you mentioning chicken feet just 10 minutes after I read it on a menu and become aware of their existence as food for the first time?

Hmm. Maybe you subconciously influenced lunch choice by our harping on about asian cuisine?

You need to be careful in my experience. The soft steamed ones in black bean sauce are delicious, but some of the types in wine sauce taste of lumps of cold gristle (with claws). :lipsrseal

Which brings us on to Chinese cakes. Golden Gate bakery in Chinatown is the tops.

Good question, I have not noticed one there. There is one just around the corner on Little Newport Street.

Have to take a look next time I am there.
