Marriage status

Hi everyone. It's that time of the year again where as an IT contractor I need to look for another job at the end of the month. I'm just jigging my PC and have realised that it may be beneficial to reflect my new found status as a "family man". I had marital status as single, but am now living with my partner (we're unmarried) and new 5 month old boy. I wondered how I could drop that into my CV without it looking like I've just knocked someone up and moved in with them!
I'm having a mind block, can anyone think of any professional sounding terms for unmarried father? :rotfl:

Many thanks for your answer, I forgot to mention that I'm knocking up a permie CV. The time has possibly come for me to get in to a stable role. Hopefully I'll get a nice contract that comes along and makes all this permie talk obsolete though! :j0

Currently have:-
Marital Status: Single
How can this be changed?0 -

Do you know what Rockporkchop? That is exactly the kind of quick and ruthless answer I wanted. It actually is obvious now you say that. You know when you just need a nudge to do what you first thought was right. So thanks for being my "yes man"
It's odd it's on there, I went on a course that ripped my CV apart, re-wrote it and it now has a 100% success rate, but for some reason they insisted that I should leave this on there. I never understood how it would be any use.
Many thanks, to both of you

All the time you were single, it was worth leaving on there, especially for contracting. You were young, footloose and fancy free, able to work 24 hour shifts to get the job done. Even for a permanent job, you don't want to give any other impression ... so just leave it off, as any sensible woman would! :rotfl:It's odd it's on there, I went on a course that ripped my CV apart, re-wrote it and it now has a 100% success rate, but for some reason they insisted that I should leave this on there. I would definitely put it in as Maritual Status: Married, one child.
Because that is what you are, with or without marriage certificate.
It shows maturity (lets face it, you want get this across too), it shows that you have a commitment you are not shying away from, that you are proud father which is lovely, and that you are, therefore, much less likely to turn up hangover every single day of the week....maybe tired, but that is ok.
It is always best to show the best of what you are, not what you are not.0 -
As an employer, I am interested in your IT skills, not how fertile your little soldiers are.0

Being cynical it could also go against him! The thought of paternity leave, flexible childcare requests, can put an employer off in the paper sift.
Thats why as a woman I dont put on my marital status OR the number of children I have.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -

Going back several decades a newly married man was what companies wanted in their sales dept as it showed they needed to work hard and earn lots of money as they had a new mortgage and 1 or 2 kids on the way to pay for. They also wouldn't just walk out with such burdens to pay for. My father got a job by mentioning he was newly married.
These days of people living together first and buying a house at random times and sharing family duties between mother and father I don't think it means anywhere near as much. If anything being single is probably seen as more of an advantage by an employer for reasons already mentioned in other posts.0
