Your home must be very well insulated Oldskool! I'm in a new build flat and we haven't had to put the heating on. May it long continue!

My heating has been on for about 20 minutes tonight just to take the chill off.
We had cavity wall insulation done 2 years ago and it has made a big difference. I would recommend it

According to expert advice on condensation you would need to heat the entire property at a low level all the time to hold the water in the air - who does that? Air can also only support a certain amount of water, if you keep creating water vapour and not letting it out eventually you are going to have water settling on surfaces.

My house won't get below 18C because that is the lower (night) setting on the Thermostat.

Who seals their house to the degree that they don't get any sort of ventilation at all? That's just silly. I have a gaping great hole in the living room wall to allow ventilation for the fire, don't most houses have this?!

Mine still not on told hubby and son could have it on on 1 november but not that cold to me, it will stop off as long as possible and i live in the north. Son went to Grandma and Grandads today and said its nice and warm here mums too tight to put our fire on.
  • Just a couple of hours in the evening, if needed which it isn't always.

Since last winter I am really noticing the difference as we have had an extension built, new windows, insulated under the floor and new doors. This has made the house so much warmer without drafts and keeps the heat in fantastically. I really noticed it the other day when it was blowing a gale outside and we were toasty.

My heating goes on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening - don't think I'll change that unless it gets REALLY cold. Had the heating that way for a month and used about 570kWh of gas during that time, not sure how that compares but on my nPower bill that's under £20 so I'm content with that!
  • mine is set to come on in the morning for an hour for when we get up, and for an hour when I get in so I come in to a nice warm house. I light the open fire straight away and then it goes off, may give it a burst later on for half an hour if I think its nippy still. I agree with the sentiment that I would rather be warm, in 2009 I refuse to sit in my own living room in extra layers, I economise on everything I can but i'l be damned if im going baltic to save a few quid, rather walk to and from work and buy cheapy bog rolls!:rotfl:

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Today's been the Day for me this year. That said, I've had it on for a couple of hours in the evening recently. Today it feels much cooler than last week, where I am at least. I was sitting here working a couple of hours ago, realised that my hands are like ice and I'm shivering, even wearing socks and a big fluffy hoodie thing (lovely and sexy..lol) and thought 'sod it'. So it's on. I just checked the temperatures for first thing in the morning and that's made me decide it's now time to have it on all day from first thing to about 9pm. Can't stand being cold and I work from home so the timer's set and all I can do is hope we don't get a very cold winter like last year.
