Or M1 A50 M6 [depending on where the roadworks are].

I used to regularly do Warrington to Peterborough and back and this was my favoured route (A1M instead of M1 at the far end). The A50 is a good road. It leaves you joining the M6 at J15 so only about 40 miles to Warrington.

    !

The people like me, who live in Warrington - we all have our own driving style! It's called "just pick any lane and make the manouver work"

Didn't know you lived in Warrington? I used to live in Cinnamon Brow.

come off M6 at M56 junction and hit warrington from the south, better than get caught in the 50 zome by j23.

M1, A50 through stoke. You can try and do back roads round cheshire, but marginal as to whether it is quicker.

Depends entirely where you are going in Warrington.

This might be good for Grappenhall, Latchford etc but

Stockton Heath go along the M56 west for one junction before turning north.

City Centre areas, Birchwood, Padgate etc leave M6 at J21.

Winwick etc go one junction west on the M62.

Westbrook, Sankey, Penketh go 2 junctions west on the M62.
  • I was going to recommend M62 - M1, but is equally terrible!

Avoid Warrington at rush hour! They removed a lovely flowing roundabout near Asda Westbrook and replaced with traffic lights "for the pedestrains" - all four of them.

Yes and it still takes forever to cross these roads cos the lights take ages to change.

They then installed traffic lights at LA Bowl to assit with turning right out of the nasty junction. These lights wernt turned on for 2 years as they knew they'd !!!!ed up. Then when they WERE on, they stopped you actually turning right as it was deemed too unsafe! So they send you left to the roundabout on the A49 and make it congested!

Ah, so it's you that cuts me up everytime I go round that damn roundabout! ;) I come off there down Cromwell from Wigan and they changed the lanes 3 times in as many weeks!

Agree with Andy it depends where in Warrington, the M6 is a nightmare. Once took me 8 hours from Cardiff to Warrington cos a lorry had spilt cooking oil all over the carriageway!

The back roads can be a nightmare as well cos if the M6 is busy you can usually guarantee everyone else will go that way!
I generally brave the M6 but try to add a good hour onto my journey.

I still travel to and from Warrington twice a month and have done for the last 4 years. I use the M6 from J8 to J21. I rarely have any difficulty.

I always end up having a stretch where it's down to 50mph - usually sheer volume of traffic rather than accidents.

A14-M1-A50- M6 STOKE Best route by far. They have laid out a lot more cones making it 50MPH for a much greater distance on the M6 south of stoke.
