That will be a hell of a shock to people living around Ross-on-Wye !harveybobbles wrote: »M50 runs right thru here (Warrington)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

OP, are you really that lazy? At least look up the route that looks reasonable and then ask!
Hey, I did look on AA and RAC at the maps and the only alternative I could see was the obvious M1 and M62 route. I have no idea what the A routes after leaving the A14 are like. Maybe I need to get out of Suffolk more...
Thanks for the suggestions! very helpful!0 -
I had a quick look as well and tbh I think M6 looks best. Have a chat with folk in Warrington and see what they suggest.
I took an alternative route last week (avoiding Glasgow in rush hour) and it turned what had been an 80 minute journey (non rush hour) into about a 150 minute journey.
It was certainly more interesting.0 -
I guess interesting is one compensation to boring, predictable but not so long... It's all a gamble.0

Of course, there is always the M6 Toll; but not sure where the roadworks are so it might not be worth it £ wise.0

The M6 toll is about a fiver. About the same cost as a map showing the vast majority of UK roads (which can't be replaced by AA/RAC route finders ). I know which I'd choose

Avoid Warrington at rush hour! They removed a lovely flowing roundabout near Asda Westbrook and replaced with traffic lights "for the pedestrains" - all four of them.
They then installed traffic lights at LA Bowl to assit with turning right out of the nasty junction. These lights wernt turned on for 2 years as they knew they'd !!!!ed up. Then when they WERE on, they stopped you actually turning right as it was deemed too unsafe! So they send you left to the roundabout on the A49 and make it congested!
The people like me, who live in Warrington - we all have our own driving style! It's called "just pick any lane and make the manouver work"0 -

M6 toll brings you out just before the roadworks which is nice
M1-A50-M6 is the way to go!
Just got back from north London to north Staffs in 3hrs 20 mins in a truck (54mph) using that same route.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Hi Paradigm, Yes, just check via the link map above and this looks like a good route. BTW that link is very useful, shows all the routes in detail! Love how you can drag and change your route with the click of a mouse.0
