I really hope you are right, on your recommendation I have just bought EL online.

I strongly suspect we are both deluded

I'll pm you ws - not really sure what 'EL' is!

Did anyone try the cream from Aldi at under a fiver a pot that in testing got as good reviews as creme de la mer?

    Think EL is Estee Lauder.

A couple of people on the health and beauty forum have tried it, with mixed results. IIRC it has a money back thingy, so if you don't like it you can take it back. at £5 rather then hundreds its worth a try. In the ''no more toiletries'' challenge some of us are using creams that don't work for one reason or another on hands (if they are quite good just don''t suit our face and neck). Things that stink get relegated to feet. Its amazing how much stuff people can accrue. I'm realising that there is little point hoarding toiletries from hotel rooms and all the samples I have if a bit....crazy really. If the end of the world comes I might not have a baked bean stash, but my skin will be well catered for!:o

Oh, thanks for that. I really don't know anything about Estee Lauder - have only occasionally used some perfume and don't like that! I'm tempted to think it's another one where you pay for the name.

Yes, I do use the Aldi cream, along with others, as part of my regime. I've just pm'd wageslave with details of my skincare routine, which includes the Aldi as a sort of base for other active ingredients. And yes, I thinks it's very good.

I'm convinced you don't need to spend the earth on brand products. You need to know what you're using on your skin and for what purpose and give any routine enough time to really see whether it works.

If you're still in your 30's, there's every chance you don't need anything corrective yet. Just keep your face well cleaned (no soap and water though) and moisturised, which I've done since I was 13. I've added in sufficient spf more recently - starting that younger would no doubt be best.

Their perfumes are so strong. They always make me think of that particular type of American woman with very big hair. I can't wear much of anyone's perfume so always avoid anything strong.

EL's moisturisers and issues based products (eg eye creams) are the only thing I spend money on and in my mind they do work. Other than that I just use bog standard stuff and don't change much as if I do my skin is very sensitive and rebels. I've used more expensive products such as Creme de la Mer and Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Creme and in my mind aren't a patch. I did once try a retinol based product and I felt like I'd used paint stripper on my skin - looked like an alien for about a week. Never again!

Now if anyone can tell me where I can get a reasonably priced roots touch up crayon or mascara I'll be totally set.

I don't use any face creams...just clean cold water.

To be honest, could never see the faff about it, my nan used nivea (the bog standard cream) for years and at age 90, had no wrinkles at all.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
