Hi all
I've been a lurker on here for about a year now
OH and I are very ready to start trying, but his debts have held us back so far. However, on looking at the figures today I think we may be able to start trying in the second half of 2010. To say I'm excited would be a vast understatement.
I just wanted to know how long you should ideally be off the pill for before trying? I've read so many mixed reviews. I would ideally like to have normal cycles back so I can start plotting ovulation days and cycle lengths etc for a while before trying, just so I'm in tune with things. I've read that you should wait anything from 2 months to 12 months before trying after stopping the pill. I'm on Cerazette. Obviously we would use condoms if I came off the pill and we've never had any trouble with these (in fact we use them as well as the pill because we were so worried about getting pregnant in our previous financial circumstances! Talk about safe!)
Does anybody have any information or advice they can offer? Best to stop in the new year perhaps and see how things go and start plotting dates? Or am I worrying too far in advance? Hehee. Can you tell I'm excited about TTC?Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10

Have a look at FF & MMC and see which one might suit you best as I think most of us tend to use one or the other for charting symptoms/cervical mucus/temps etc etc

How exciting for you:D and Welcome:D The link to the abbreviations we use are on page 1..worth a skim read;) I'd say it's best to stop the pill at the end of your current pack so it's out of your system and you can ttc with a clean slate so to speak:) Also start taking folic acid...in case anything happens earlier than expected. And just generally look after yourself:)

Thanks so much for the info, confuzzled. Really appreciate it. I take multivitamins & minerals every day and these do include Folic acid, so have already been taking it for years. Unfortunately I'm currently on steroids after a nasty flare-up of bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's - they've never been able to pinpoint a diagnosis), but will be stopping the steroids in January and will be talking to my Consultant about any problems that may or may not turn up due to my disease if I get pregnant when I see him next in June of next year.
Hopefully I'll be totally ready and healthy by the time we start trying and I was thinking of stopping the pill at the end of this pack as well, but kind of just wanted confirmation that I wasn't getting ahead of myself! So, thank you. I will still need to talk to OH about stopping it though, as it's a tad scary stopping it and I just need to make sure we'd still be OK financially if we did happen to get pregnant acidentally in the meantime. I know it's highly unlikely and we've never had any scares or problems with condoms, but you do hear of it happening every now and again!
Thanks again and I do hope to be on here permanently in 6 months or so!Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10

Oooh, I did wonder and to be honest that is partly why I mentioned it - in case anybody else had experience they could share. I realise it's a delicate subject for some though, so if anybody is happy to PM me then that would be incredibly appreciated.
