  • Hi All,

Well, um, i dont know if im in the right place, OH and i are not TTC yet, but we have been discussing it and making our plan, this all ties in with the IUD Coil that i have being up in August (5 years).

We have said that if it happened now, we would both be extatic, so the next step is to start planning when to remove the contraception and start making babies :D

I was wondering if any one could tell me, with the coil, um, is it like an instant thing, like if you stop taking the pill it stops working, so when it reaches the 5 years it will suddenly become ineffective?

Also, our mission next year, is to get my back in better shape through exercise and to start getting ourselves in better health and finances before we start the long road to contraception. Is there any think i should be doing now? i know its 8 whole months away potentially, but if there are things that i can do to make our chances better i would love to know.

Essential info, im 27, OH is 35, no previous children or pregnancies and never taken this step before (so both totally lost in the unknown)

Thanks for reading, and as usual, sorry for waffling!

    Hi and Welcome Puzzled
I don't know much about the IUD coil so really can't help you there, I sure there will be somone with more information for you on here.
In your post I hope you meant the long road to conception not contraception:rotfl:
The only thing I would suggest is to start taking folic acid 3 months or so before you start trying. I remember reading recently that they are thinking about changing this to suggest that every women of childbearing age should take folic acid - so there is no harm in taking it before then;)

Thank you :) i have made the amendment, doh! Folic acid sounds like a plan, are there any foods that are rich in folic acid that i can start encorporating now? Is spinach good because of the iron etc? I am hoping that if i can start with the healthy eating thing now then when the time comes it will be built into me :)

I'm taking folic acid supplements. Get it when the 3 for 2 offer is on ;)
  • Thanks QQ, is that across all of the usual places or is one place better than another?

Welcome to the rollercoaster of TTC:D I can't help you with the coil I'm afraid but a quick chat with your doc should clear up any questions you have:) As for preparing for it all start taking folic acid & multi-vits(make sure the multi-vits don't have high Vitamin A content) if you're changing your diet slowly, cut down on caffeine intakeand generally look after yourself:) Also an idea to start with light exercise too coz lets face it...nobody wants to be a frumpy Mummy ...or am I the only one that vain??:o:p:rotfl:
Did I read that you have a bad back too?!?!

They just said that there were no cells that would indicate material of conception:confused: However TMI alert before my D&C last week I had a long wait between getting the tablets (to open the cervix) and going to theatre and had some bleeding - although I kept all this (you have to use a bed pan and keep all toilet paper etc:o) I don't think it was examined and I could have lost tissue then. The other theory is that it was ectopic - in an ovary and it has just fizzled out:confused:
Who said making babies was easy?!?

i've not used a coil, but when i went through all my options with nurse earlier this year i'm sure she said the coil is like the implant once it is out then your fertility is returned as normal straight away.

i'm on pill and we are planning on stopping it in the aug a month before were planning on starting to try, as it takes my body ages to get it out my system.
