  • Hi everyone, hope you are all ok.

I'm having a bit of a 'down' morning today. We found out this morning, that despite me applying for my daughter to go to one of 3 schools near where I work (because the school that we're in the catchment area for, doesn't have adequate before and after care for me to continue working full-time, and we can't afford for me to go part-time - also it's rubbish according to Ofsted, it's basically the one school I don't want her to attend!), the Council in their wisdom, has ignored all 3 and put her down for the one school I really don't want her going to. I don't really know why I even bothered applying. What with pregnancy hormones and everything, I've been in tears since reading the response.
Now we're going to have to appeal, and wait however many months it's going to take for them probably to turn down our appeal - I feel really frustrated.
My mum suggested that we send her to the local private school, but there's no way we can afford that as well as nursery fees for the baby when he comes.
    Oh, grrrrrrrrrr.........................

Rant away redstar its what we are here for :-)

Have you got childcare arranged for close to work it may help your appeal if you can put your daughter with a childminder close to the school for before and after school thats how i got my places for my two apparently it one of the selection criteria around here might be worth a try once they are in you can always take them out of the childminder after a term or so :-)

Supersaver if you really want to try your tens machine before 37 wks you can attach it to your arm quite safely be warned though the effect are ten fold on the arm so you may think god how am i going to cope with that during labour but trust me once the contraction kick in you will barely notice it :-)

redstar - this happened to a few people i know. One woman i knew from DS nursery had given 3 options but was offered a place in a school with mainly Asian kids, where they do lots of 'Muslim' prayers or w/e, and school meals were asian?! She wasn't happy at all.

Anyway i've never known anyone to lose an appeal, so try not to worry too much, there will be people appealing from both sides so hopefully it'll be s traightforward swapover of a few kids from each school.

  • Sonee2405- Hello and welcome :)

Bexta- I was hoping to have the anti-d in my bum as it's meant to be less painful there but I know everyone reacts differently to it. The nurse agreed it does hurt more in the arm and she had a grin on her face when she said it. I wonder why you don't always get the choice?

Has anyone used Lactolose? Was given it by Dr after my stressful few days with being completely blocked up but haven't used it yet as luckily things got moving after I ate a million apricots. But for next time I was wondering how long it takes to kick in and does it make things move quite....suddenly shall we say or does it work much more naturally? :D
  • this thread moves way too fast, i am never gonna keep up! :D

another thing about waiting to cut the cord, apparently it's best for the baby to get its "full quota" of the blood that's in it and when it's cut straight away it doesn't get this.

thanks for the advice on TENS machines, i am going to borrow one but you've made me realise i need to check if it's suitable first!

Can i ask if anyone is planning a home birth? I really want one and am just doing my research atm...
  • Thanks Xmas and Beenie - I appreciate your comments.
Xmas - I haven't currently got a childminder lined up as the schools I had applied to had breakfast and after school clubs that I could work around, however I agree that it might be worth looking at now.
Beenie - I'm definitely going to appeal, I'm just not very confident as they're claiming that there's too many pupils for the schools in the town where I work and unfortunately, the next town where I live (and where they have allocated a place) there are fewer pupils, and I don't think they consider the argument 'but the school's carp' a reasonable case for appeal.

Oh well, I'll look at it all over the weekend and see what we can do. No point worrying too much at the moment, I guess. Thank-you though for your comments, I really appreciate it.

Redstar, i never had to appeal, but i thought i'd be refused my preferred school. I told them about my connections with that area - i actually lied and said i was moving into my mothers house, she lives near it haha. I wasn't, it was so she could collect him while i was at work but i wasn't sure that'd be good enough. Could you bend the truth and tell them of connections with the area, i.e work, childminder, family?
IME they never actually check up on anything, and the people you're up against will most likely have all kinds of stories made up lol :p
