Beat me to posting the thread link eviesmummy!
Saz and supersaver, [STRIKE]I decided [/STRIKE]we decided not to find out the sex and I'm glad we didn't. I'm really looking forward to that "it's a boy!" or "it's a girl!" moment. At times I have almost wished we had found out, like looking for outfits etc but I am glad we didn't. DH wanted to find out initially, as to be honest I think most people do nowadays. (I sound old don't I? I'm only 26!!!)
It's nice not have loads of pink or blue things and we have a yellow themed nursery. I feel you have plenty of time to get to know all about that baby once it arrives, and I'm just enjoying having Baby C / Tic Tac / bump for now!
Hi Kym and welcome. I think there's a lot of things that you don't really need for baby. Again some of it might be me being old-fashioned but we aren't having a lot of things, although some things that I said I wasn't buying have been given to us from people who had children recently, such as a moses basket. I had intended on using the cotbed right from the start.
I have a fab book that I was given called "The Resourceful Mum's Handbook - Baby on a Budget" and there's a list in there of what is absolutely necessary:
Cot and new mattress
Pram
Car seat - new
Breast pump, bottles and steriliser if BF or just bottles and steriliser if not
Clothing
Bedding
Nappies
High chair (from about 6months old)
That's about it!!0 -
hi all
back from house search...
bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen all perfect size but twinned with a box of a living room, and no way gonna work for us.... disappointing but have another one tomorrow.....
But have hit a massive brick wall with dh about what i thought was going to be happening, so now i feel totally stuck and lost and on the verge of tears....Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
about maternity bras - I'm 17 weeks and still in underwires. Probably not the best, but at an H cup pre pregnancy and having gone up to HH since, finding supportive maternity bras is a near impossibility. While I will be heading to Bravissimo soon in a quest to find one that is comfy and not droopy - I'm sticking with underwires as long as possible!
And whoever it was who was talking about winnie the pooh, I've been bought some nice hooded blankets, baby towels, babygros, a mobile and changing mat from Matalan. They're all pretty reasonably priced, around the £6 mark.
CAFC - There must be a great house out there for you somewhere, hope you find it soon
saz - we're finding out (I'm far too impatient) but we're not telling anyone elsemy mum will torment me I'm sure but that's what we decided.
hope everyone is well. I'm exhausted - didn't get much sleep because I've had terrible stabbing pains in my hips when I'm lying on my side. I think it's too early (17 weeks) for it to be that bad because of baby so I must have done something funny0 -
oh im sure there i, but dh has it in his head to stay bunking in my sisters spare room for another 2 months, before moving anywhere, so i'll be practically 7 months pregnant by then.....
im just really fed up by the whole thing now so i best not say anymore and ruin everyones night xxWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Hello ladies :hello:
Im 14 weeks pregnant with my first (due 12/07/10) and just starting to look at equipment, etc - I find it all a bit overwhelming to say the least - how do you know what is "necessary" and what you will never use?
DP suggested we break it down and look at one thing at a time of the necessary things, so the first thing we are looking at is a pram/pushchair. But we have no idea- so I was hoping someone could suggest some suitable options?
It needs to be ok to use from birth and I would prefer it that you could choose to have the baby facing you at least at the beginning. It MUST be able to be used on sand as we live by the sea and the beach is a big part of our life. We also enjoy walking in muddy woods and on the moor so a fairly robust off-road type would be great. But then it equally needs to be ok for walks into town, etc. We dont mind getting a separate car seat so are not looking for a travel system. Cost wise - please suggest anything as we will look at getting more expensive options second hand anyway. Any ideas??? Please help me!! TIA
Welcome Kym
I think you just have to read up on everything and then decide for yourself, like for me I wanted a moses basket for babybean to sleep in till he is big enough for his own room and then he will go into his cotbed
Whereas some people dont want a moses basket and babies can grow out of them really quick.
It depends on space etc, like you could have a travel cot instead which you can take up and down and its bigger therefore will last baby longer, and can be used as a playpen etc as they get older?
Lots of things
Pram wise I dont know, but Hauck do some nice wheels that would be ok on sand
And we furnished the whole nursery in Ikea furniture and it was really reasonable price wise
HTH
Supersaver I am always going to say find out the sex lol cos thats something I need to know lol
