Gymfiend- if you are considering homebirth and can get the all clear, it is best to say you want a homebirth earlier, as you can transfer to hospital at any time during your 'homebirth.' But obviously can't do it the other way round iyswim. So if you are unsure at all then prob best to look into homebirth as an option then you can always go in if you don't feel like it at the time.

I had a homebirth 8mths ago with ds3 and am thinking of another with this baby, the only thing putting me off is the fact that I will have a 15mth old in the house..the older two were brilliant last time, they went upstairs and played with their 'special toy/sweet bags' that I had prepared for them and watched dvd's in their room until we shouted them down to see their little baby brother. I don't want any of our family involved in the birth so wouldn't dream of asking them round to look after the kids unless it was so I could go to hospital.

Ooh are you thinking of home birth then? I was considering... but then thought about how much there would be to clean up after? Surely you'd have to get stuff in specifically for it so you didn't wreck the bed etc? Also wouldn't trust my dog lol she'd be straight in there "mmm afterbirth for dindins" dirty lil b

You don't need much at all and obviously you would put the dog in a seperate room/garden. Plus the midwives clean up the place pretty quickly.

Haha, I'd love a homebirth, but OH really isn't keen (his family have gone on about the dangers of me having this tumour and giving birth so much I think it's scared him, though not once have any dangers been mentioned by my Drs!). I really really want a waterbirth, but it's only available at one local hospital, the one that I'm not currently allowed to go to, because my specialist isn't there! If the only way I can get a waterbirth is at home, then I might just ignore OH's wishes totally :p I'm all for the idea of a peaceful birth and maybe naively, think that it can only as painful as you allow it to be, so if I'm in a calm, peaceful environment without monitors, other screaming women and Drs everywhere, I think it would be much easier and conducive to a peaceful birth? Quite probably I'm being idealistic and a bit stupid :rotfl:
I wouldn't say it reduces the pain but maybe allows you to concentrate and remain relaxed therefore are able to deal with the pain a bit better:confused:
I think I read somewhere that being tense/uncomfortable does make you experience pain more intensely

Would you consider what my auntie (who is a retired midwife) calls domino care? Where you labour at home untill you are 3 or 4 cm and then go in to hosp so you are in hosp for minimal ammount of time - you come out within hours of birth (pending pead checks) . Might be something to consider if your oh is really concerned about hb? Its what i am doing and i am consultant led:confused: not sure if it is ok to do this - maybe someone will come along in a min and correct me if i am wrong?

Halfpint has been asleep all day - so i can predict what is going to happen tonight - lol

Only problem I foresee with this type of care (which I did look into last time) is that if the pead decides in their infinite wisdom something with you or baby isn't quite right, you could find yourself railroaded into staying longer than you wanted to...
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.

Mr AB you should have heard some of the stories i have on this thread about incompetence / errors / lack of sensitivity some (not all) midwifes have put us through the receptions of docs / hospitals would be overflowing with letters of complaint.

I was bleeding for my booking appointment and wondering if i was going to lose halfpint and rather than quickly booking me in and helping with the bleeding and emergency care she gave me a 20 min lec on breastfeeding. A couple of weeks ago i got to hospital reception and was asked if i had been given an appointment for a c/section:eek::eek::eek: First i had heard of it:mad: they had put one of my "name stickers" on someone elses notes :eek:- small error but very upsetting at the time. Dont get me wrong - midwifes are excellent professionals who are in the majority amazing - just sometimes they mess up like anyone else and upset us preggy ladies. Something to bear in mind when Mrs AB has her appointmetns / scans;) If you feel there has been a very distressing error - you can complain to the senior midwife at the hosp or to the practice manager at the doc. But heres hoping you wont need to

I suppose there is the view that as they're dealing with pregnant ladies everyday, sometimes they forget how important it is for the individual they're speaking to.

I'm not for a second saying this excuses their actions, but could give some reasoning for there actions.

However, I'm intending to attend all the midwife/scan appointments, so if anything does happen I'll ensure the right people are made aware. Mrs AB has Baby AB to look after, so I'll deal with all such nonsense :D

Also, Baby AB wanted to say hello and is waving to you all in the 12 weeks scan (or maybe about to suck his/her thumb as Mrs AB seems to think ;))

Spent whole night tossing and turning and if I lay on one side for too long I got really sore hips :( Right hip inparticular has still ached a bit all day today aswell. Has anyone else found this? I'm 17wks and am using a dream genii pillow but maybe I'm not doing it quite right?!

Been tired and a bit out of it all day today and dreading work tomorrow now...esp since my regional manager has sent an email through telling us we've got a big move to do tomorrow doh

Oh my god, I'm in the worst mood ever.

Midwife was rubbish, she argued with me that I was only 24+5, despite being due 8th March on a MONDAY. Today is MONDAY, how can I not be an exact number of weeks? ARGH, she's the stand in one and she's an idiot. So spent ages arguing with her saying I need my Mat B1 for and she kept refusing, until I promised I wouldn't send it to anyone til Friday, when I'd be 25 weeks, erm, what, even by your wrong calculation I'd be 25+2 on Friday. Anyway conceded to shut her up then told her I wanted to switch hospitals and she was like oh ok you're low risk no problem, but you'll have to wait til you come back in 4 weeks for the other midwife so refer you. Ok, 1/ it clearly states ALL over my notes that I'm classed as high risk, 2/ by the time I go back in 4 weeks (meant to be a 28 week appointment though it will be 29 as she can't count) and the referral is sent, I'll quite probably be too late to get to a water birth evening (which she said I can't go to until I've been referred) so I won't get my water birth. I could cry, stupid stupid woman. I actually complained to reception on the way out that the woman is stupid & they said I wasn't the first person to say as much!

Then, popped into the post office, mum was in the Q which was massive, so I sat down as I've been having trouble with sciatica. Some woman came over and had a go at me, saying I had no manners because i hadn't offered her the chair, erm, what? I was so shocked I didn't know what to say and she quickly scuttled off, if I see her again she'll wish she never opened her mouth.

I could cry, god, stupid hormones. Now the prospect of a water birth at home is becoming far more appealing, will have to sit OH down to seriously discuss it later...

Erm I thought you were due the 9th?

Were you ever the 9th lol

I thought it was EA, me, you 7,8,9? obv I am wrong lol I just though lol

Did you both get to hear the HB again? I have my 25 week appointment tomorrow (when I am 25+1 lol)

Aww Mr AB, that pic is so cute! I love see scan pics...all the babies have their own personalities.

My hubby wanted to come to all scans and MW appts, but it hasn't quite been possible...he's come to most, but sometimes they're just inconveniently scheduled he can't get off work! Don't feel too bad if you have to miss 1 or 2, because the ones in the middle are very boring - all they do is test your pee and take your blood pressure and send you on your way. You wouldn't be missing much!

Speaking of appts, still waiting to hear when this morning's cancelled one will be rescheduled . Normally wouldn't be so fussed, but at the last one the GP made a deal about how it was 4 wks til my next appt (she seemed to think that was too long) so has made me a bit paranoid about making sure I'm getting checked properly just in case. Though I feel fine!

I'm so boring - all I want to do is go to bed! Shall retire now with a book :D
