Thank you very much everyone for your very helpful opinions / situations regarding god parents. It has helped me make the decision regarding the use of "godparent" or "guradian". And whether 1 or more is needed. So thanks:D
Everyone of my generation (and since) in my family was christned and have either 2 godmothers and 1 godfather if a girl and 1 godmother and 2 godfathers if a boy (all godparents have to be married) just something my family do and based on their christian faith.
My OH and i as an adult are now of a faith that does not have godparents (not christian) but i still wanted someone or a number of people to "do the job" so to speak as the religions and cultures vary so much within our family now arguments would occur regarding how lo should be braught up - so i wanted someone to:
1. to be another person our child could approach if it was in distress or trouble (if we wernt available)
2. to be a positive influence on our child on a day to day basis and be involved in its upbringing
3. to care for the child (legally) if anything were to happen to the both of us.
Nothing to do with honouring anyone or bowing to family pressure to appoint such and such a person iyswim.
Anyway - as our baby is not going to be christned and based on your opinions / help i think we will just have the 1 and just call them lo's guardian.
So thats lo's names (dont know sex) and guardian sorted:D
thank you very much ladies:D0 -
I absolutely agree Aless
OH's dad's religious (Christian) and think to some degree he wants to christen to please him, but I will flatly refuse as I think it's hypocritical, unless of course OH decides to start attending church regularly, then I would discuss the matter.
Elasti it's gorgeous

The gift is below, it's so fab i love it. Not sure why they have given it us 3 weeks early and before the baby is even born but there you go. It's lovely
it has
3 x knitted jumpers/cardis
3 x knitted mittens
3 x knitted booties
Mamas and Papas teddy
M&S rattle
2 hooded towels
3 pairs of socks 0-3 months
2 pairs of socks newborn
M&S 2 piece outfit newborn

That is gorgeous! So thoughtful of them to put all that together. I'd be thrilled to receive it early so you can get it all washed and ready for little one to wear. We're being bought loads of lovely stuff now for Henry, but he can't wear it till I find the time to wash and dry it all!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -

freebies - I love the birth story thread. Even though some are quite traumatic, I think it's been helpful for me to get a really well-rounded viewpoint of what birth can really be like...good or bad! It makes me feel like I'll hopefully be prepared for almost any eventuality.
jha - I think that just means that if the baby is born after 37 weeks, it's considered "full term" rather than premature/early. Just basically that everything's pretty much developed as it should be and the bubs is pretty much fully grown. In the UK, gestation IS an average of 40 weeks, you're right. It's 41 in Europe, I think!top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
