Som- It's Elfyn, and we don't shorten it, but figured at school she could shorten it to Ellie, Elle or Finn if she want's something a bit more usual. I have met a few girls named Finley recently. I like it for a girl or boy though.

Boy's name we are sorted for, but girls I have a huge list of ones I like and now we just have to decide on a couple to round it down.

My mum named me and my brothers all names which couldn't be shortened and people just lengthen it instead :) Names really are so personal though, for every name I hate there will be hundreds of people who love it and vice versa, just gotta go with what you like I think, you will always get people making comments one way or another.

All I can say is every dog is individual, and so much of it depends on how they are trained by their owners..... Some breeds are known to have certain personality traits, but Ive met a whippet (like a greyhound) who hated walks and running, a boxer who was scared of everything, and a husky who acted like a cat....

We've got a pug, and he is adorable. He has his own individual personality, and is so funny.... But according to what you read in books etc he "should" be a bit aloof, but he's a playful fat little ball with no airs and graces at all!

As for your friends, with a 4yo, they'll need to teach the kid as well how to treat a dog, rather than laying it all on the dog. The dog needs to know hes not pack leader, everyone in the house comes before him, but their LO needs to know how to pet the dog responsibly......thats probs all I can suggest really....

Staffs were always known as nanny dogs as they are very loyal and were very good with children, however due to inbreeding and absolute moron chavs owning them and training them to be violent or not training them or walking them at all, they have developed a bad reputation. All the staffies I have known have been kept by responsible owners and have been exercised well and are lovely dogs, unfortunately they get a bad rep as muscle dogs. Apperently most common dog to bite is actually a labrador, however if a staffie bit it may do slightly more damage. Personally I think it is down to the training and common sense like not leaving kids alone with dog's.

V good point about the kids being "trained" too CAFC - my dog doesn't bite anyone, but had my bro's niece over one night, kept chasing her a pulling her tail - she's 5 and has lots of pets herself so should know better - even when Bells went and got in her bed to be away from it all. She got nipped - no mark whatsoever although she made a big deal out of it!!! But hassle a dog enough and any will snap and at least give you a telling off. In a rather mean way I was quite glad it had happened - my bro has a big gsd that had it been him that lost it would have caused a lot more damage, and I also know said child has snapped the end of her cats tail off. She really needs to learn to treat animals with a little respect.

CAFC - totally agree with you ref dogs, its not really about breads, more about training and personality.

Thanks Mermaid85, and Xmas for your suggestions, maybe Alexandra or Alexis would be good ideas for longer names! Lexie does seem abit short.

Just had an email from Bizziebaby, I have been selected to try Bio Oil! I was kinda hoping for something for the baby but I am happy as I am using Bio Oil so this will make me more determined to apply it everyday, and see if there are any results. Do you only get offered one product? Or would I have a chance of trying anything else? I am very suprised as I only joined about 2 weeks ago, hopefully it will come soon!

Well I am back and had a very stubborn bean. Ended up having to go for a walk round hospital to jig it about a bit and my intuition was correct it's a GIRL! Everything looked as it should tho my placenta is still a bit low so have another scan booked for 36 weeks.

On subject of dogs we have 3 and 1 of which is a Staffie. He is the gentlest of the 3 of our dogs and I can't stand certain breeds being branded as 'dangerous'. It comes down to the individual dog and it's owner. We have people who will cross the road to not have to walk past our Staffie and I'm sure once we have baby here we will get even more looks of disgust for having a Staffie and a child but there you go. You can't change some people's ignorance.
